7 Popular Undertale Fan Theories
Toby Fox’s Undertale is intentionally vague with much of its narrative, which has allowed fans to come up with these fascinating theories.
In Undertale there are also many characters who say very impactful quotes that will stay with players for a very long time. To defend themselves from the monsters they’ll encounter along the way, players will have many weapons at their disposal, but not all of them are as effective as others. Here are some of the best weapons in Undertale.

Torn Notebook
A Weird Weapon Of Choice, But Effective
Effects |
2ATK |
Pattern |
2 hits |
Location and Cost |
Gerson for 55G |
When they were in high school, some players might have thought about using their heavy notebooks as a weapon to defend themselves from those who would try to give them a hard time.
Undertale makes this a reality by allowing the protagonist to use the Torn Notebook, which has some gibberish written on it and only deals 2ATK, which is almost nothing, even in the early stages of the game. It has a 2-hit attack pattern and can be obtained from Gerson for 55G.

Tough Glove
A Good Weapon For The Early Stages Of The Game
Effects |
5ATK |
Pattern |
Single hit, mash |
Location and Cost |
Dimensional Box for free, Snowdin Shopkeeper 50G |
The Tough Glove might not look like a very powerful weapon at a glance, and this is because it really isn’t. However, it can be a good assistance when used in the early stages of the game. It’s described as worn and pink and made of leather. Specifically made for five-fingered folk.
The Tough Glove has 5ATK and a single hit pattern that can be useful against most weaker enemies. It can be obtained from the Dimensional Box for free or bought from the Snowdin Shopkeeper for 50G. Undertale requires players to plan their every move, so it could be considered to be one of the best 16-bit tactical RPGs out there.

Ballet Shoes
Useful Against The Challenges Players Will Encounter
Effects |
7ATK |
Pattern |
3 hits |
Location and Cost |
Tall Grass in Waterfall for free |
The Ballet Shoes are probably, to many players’ eyes, a very unorthodox choice for weapon, and it’s normal to wonder how they can do any kind of damage. These can be obtained in the tall grass in Waterfall for free and have 7ATK. The attack pattern comes in 3 hits, which can be very useful in various scenarios.

6 Best Games To Play If You Love Undertale
Undertale may be one-of-a-kind, but there have been game studios before and since that set out to capture the same kind of offbeat magic.
That said, compared to more advanced weapons, the Ballet Shoes don’t really have much going for them except for their quirky description. Not that that’s going to deal any damage, but still, it’s interesting. Similar games to Undertale, such as some of the best 16-bit JRPGs, also feature unconventional weapons, but they don’t dare to go as far as using ballet attire as a form of dealing damage.
4
Burnt Pan
A Cooking Utensil That Has Been Repurposed
Effects |
10ATK |
Pattern |
4 hits |
Location and Cost |
Isolated area in Hotland for free |
Throughout the decades, pans have been used for comedic relief as weapons by many fun characters both in movies and series. So the fact that it’s also possible to use this kitchen utensil in Undertale is a most welcome addition. The Burnt Pan deals very consistent damage and also makes consumable items heal four more HP. It has 10ATK and a 4-hit pattern that makes it quite effective against various enemies.
It can be obtained from an isolated area in Hotland for free, so players should definitely look for it when they have the chance. Although Undertale is not a 16-bit game designed to be played in coop mode, it’s undeniable that it would be hilarious to go around the place smashing enemies in the head with a burnt pan.
3
Empty Gun
Even When Empty, It Can Be Useful
Effects |
12ATK |
Pattern |
4 hits, very fast |
Location and Cost |
Bratty and Catty for 350G, Free in the Genocide Route |
There’s no denying that an empty gun is as useful as a car without an engine, as it loses its entire purpose without the proper ammunition. However, this weapon is quite good in Undertale despite its lack of bullets. The Empty Gun is described as an antique revolver that must be used with precision, as otherwise, the damage output will be low.
When used properly, the Empty Gun has 12ATK and deals 4, very fast hits. It can be purchased from Bratty and Catty for 350G or obtained for free in the Genocide Route. Although Undertale didn’t have the budget that other 16-bit games developed by massive companies like Sega, it’s undeniable that it delivers an experience just as fun, if not more.
2
Worn Dagger
A Sharp Blade That Has Seen Better Days
Effects |
15ATK |
Pattern |
Single hit |
Location and Cost |
Asgore’s Home for free |
Through the use of the Worn Dagger, Undertale follows in the footsteps of 16-bit games developed by Nintendo in the same category that give players a rusty weapon that doesn’t do as much as other sharp weapons in better condition.

The Worn Dagger is great for cutting plants and vines and deals a considerable 15ATK. However, it’s a little held back by its single hit pattern. It can be obtained in Asgore’s Home for free and replaces the Real Knife in the True Pacifist Route and the Neutral Route.
1
Real Knife
The Ultimate Weapon Of Mass Destruction
Effects |
99ATK |
Pattern |
Single hit |
Location and Cost |
Asgore’s home for free. Replaces the Worn Dagger in the Genocide Route |
There’s no denying that Undertale is one of the best story-driven video games out there. And this is only reinforced by the great weapons available in the game, which culminate with the Real Knife.
The Real Knife is, without a doubt, the strongest weapon in the entirety of Undertale, as it deals a whopping 99ATK. This is a gargantuan jump from any other weapon in the game, which makes its single-hit attack pattern forgivable due to its raw power. It can be obtained from Asgore’s Home for free, and it replaces the Worn Dagger in the Genocide Route.

Dance with a slime…pet a dog…whisper your favorite secret to a knight…or ignore all of that and rain destruction upon your foes. The choices are yours—but are you determined enough to prevail?
