Summary
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A will introduce 27 new Mega Evolutions, reportedby a reliable source.
- The leak doesn’t mention anything beyond the number of new Megas and Gen 5’s involvement.
- The Pokemon Company is all in on Mega Evolutions, expanding the existing roster by 50% with the new additions.
One of the most exciting aspects of Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the return of Mega Evolutions. While not wholly beloved when Pokemon X and Y were released, players have yearned for their comeback in the years that followed.
The recent trailer from the Pokemon Day Pokemon Presents Livestream confirmed the return of Mega Evolutions but, rather surprisingly, didn’t introduce any new ones to prospective players to help generate hype. This naturally led to questions as to whether The Pokemon Company would be relying on existing Megas without introducing many, if any, new ones.

Thankfully, that now seems not to be the case, as a new leak purports that Legends: Z-A could introduce as many as 27 new Mega Evolutions.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A May Introduce A Whopping 27 New Mega Evolutions
This new report comes from Centro Leaks, who generally have a pretty good track record when it comes to leaking Pokemon information. They were a big part of the Pokemon Gigaleak that happened late last year, revealing tons of information about Pokemon lore and unreleased Pokemon games.
In a new tweet, the leaker states that “The cat’s out of the bag. It is true: Pokémon Legends: Z-A will introduce 27 new Mega Evolutions.” While they didn’t share much more information than that, they did confirm that Gen 5 would see some new Mega Evolutions alongside Legendary Pokemon Zygarde. Who knows what else will be coming?
The cat’s out of the bag. It is true: Pokémon Legends: Z-A will introduce 27 new Mega Evolutions.
27 new Mega Evolutions is a serious commitment from The Pokemon Company. In the original instance, during the Pokemon X and Y era, the company introduced a total of 48 Mega Evolutions across 46 species, with Mewtwo and Charizard both getting two each. This means that we’ll be getting an extra 50 percent new Megas on top of what already exists.
Pokemon seems to be going all in on Mega Evolutions with them returning to the games, the anime, and the Pokemon TCG, and I couldn’t be happier.
