Who Is Gyro Zeppeli In JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure?

An Executioner From Naples

Born in Naples, Italy, Julius Caesar Zeppeli, aka Gyro Zeppeli, was the son of Gregorio Zeppeli and a member of the prominent Zeppeli family in JoJo’s of the kingdom of Naples. Learning to become a doctor and royal executioner from a young age, Gyro actually succeeded in both of these fields, becoming both a doctor and executioner, just like his father. Additionally, Gyro also learned his family’s Spin technique, an ability that was used as a means of execution, and allows him to apply a mysterious force to dangerous steel balls that he utilizes in combat.

Hey Johnny, I just thought of a song… I just made it up. Lyrics and tune both written by Gyro Zepeli. – Gyro

However, once he had become the royal executioner of Naples, the future Jobro, Gyro, would eventually meet a young boy named Marco. Being the servant of a traitorous noble, Marco was sentenced to execution, despite being a 9-year-old child. Gyro objected to his execution but was told that the only way to prevent his death was to win the Steel Ball Run, which would give the kingdom enough prestige to allow them to make such a move. From here, Gyro left for America in order to join the horse race and win the Steel Ball Run.

What Is Gyro Like In JoJo’s?

A Powerful And Rude Individual With A Heart Of Gold

  • Gyro Is A Straightforward And Rude Individual With A Softer Side
  • Gyro Utilizes The Power Of Spin In Battle

Overall, Gyro is a fairly brash and cocky individual, who tends to make aggressive and short-sighted decisions throughout JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Steel Ball Run, as long as they mean he has a chance to get ahead. Overall, this abrasive personality, paired with his constant insults towards others, including Johnny, makes him come across as extremely rude. Despite this, Gyro is also a fairly goofy individual, who is prone to making puns and creating silly songs. Paired with a fairly strong sense of justice and kindness, Gyro is beloved by the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure community for having such a compelling and lovable personality.

The Jojo family may have some eye-catching designs, but this also applies to the many villains of the series.

Interestingly, although Gyro does utilize the power of Spin in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7, he doesn’t really possess a Stand ability for most of Steel Ball Run. Instead, after receiving the Eye of the Holy Corpse, Gyro manifests the Scan ability, allowing him to enhance his Spin abilities and granting him vision through his steel balls. By the end of the series, however, Gyro eventually develops his Stand, Ball Breakers, through the mastery of the Spin technique, which allows him to bypass dimensional barriers.

The Friendship Between Johnny And Gyro Is A Highlight Of Part 7

The Duo Act Like True Friends Throughout The Part

Gyro Jojo's Smile

Throughout Steel Ball Run, as many fans of JoJo’s are well aware, Gyro develops a close relationship with the main protagonist of Part 7, Johnny Joestar. Though Johnny is quite tame and reserved compared to the loud and abrasive Gyro, the two get along surprisingly well, with Gyro teaching Johnny the secrets of Spin, in order to help him regain the ability to walk. Soon in their journey, Johnny and Gyro become one of the most real depictions of friends in manga, with the duo constantly joking around, insulting random individuals, and always being there to have each other’s backs.

The shortest route was a detour. It was the detour that was our shortest path. – Gyro

In the end, Gyro Zeppeli is a stand-out JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure character and one that many fans should look forward to seeing when Part 7 receives an anime. Until then, fans will have to revisit the Steel Ball Run and enjoy one of the best friendships in manga history. Hopefully, when the anime of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7 is released, it will do the dynamic between Gyro and Johnny justice.
