Where To Find The Soulstones In The Phraugh Village Area Of The First Berserker: Khazan

Unfortunately, by the time you arrive in The First Berserker: Khazan‘s Phraugh Village, the dragonkin will already have wiped out most of the villagers. What starts as a rescue mission quickly ends up being more of an extermination. We’ll walk you through the process of clearing out the caves near Phraugh to liberating the village itself. At least what’s left of it.

Prepare to die.

Naturally, we’ll help give you tips on how to defeat the minibosses you’ll encounter throughout this stage and point you in the direction of all the goodies hidden around the village. Those, of course, include all the Soulstones, weapons, pieces of armor, and rare consumables. With this guide by your side, you can be certain that you won’t miss anything by the time you clear this stage.

You’ll start by hopping off the cliff and binding with the Cabin on the Cliff Blade Nexus. Now, head forward through the field, you will be at a fork in the road. The left is the main path; to the right, you’ll get two Lightning-Cleanse Potions in a cave. This cave is filled with Wild Dogs.

I know they look like wolves, but the codex calls them ‘Wild Dogs’, so that’s what we’re going with.

Beware of the body that looks like it will get you Soul Tears. It is a trap. You will be attacked by the Crypt Devourer, which is a massive, underground worm monster. However, you can use your javelin to take it out before it ever spawns. The cave connects to an area being guarded by a Wild Bear. You don’t have to fight the bear at all. If you don’t want to, you can just head back the way you came.

Khazan inside the cave at the beginning of the First Act of Revenge in The First Berserker Khazan.

This bear is the same as the one you encounter in the first stage of the game. The only difference is that they seemingly have a little more health. Just in case you skipped over that fight, the Wild Bear has a slamming attack, a giant slashing attack, and will roll into you if you are beside them. Additionally, if you get too close, they may grab you and take a bite out of your shoulder.

Thankfully, their attacks come with massive tells, so dodging through them isn’t particularly tough. I wouldn’t recommend trying to perform a Brink Guard here, as a small slip-up will take a massive amount of your health away. Once you kill the Wild Bear, you’ll find Soul Tears in this area. Now head back to the section where the path forked, and go left this time.

From this point onwards, the Crypt Devourer is going to be a staple enemy. So, if you see what you think is a body ready to give you Soul Tears, aim your javelin at it first. If the reticle turns red, that’s a big worm looking to trick you. Thankfully, spearing them with a javelin is often instant death for them.

Back on the path, there is a boar waiting for you in the field. Take it out with javelins. Now, look to the right. You should see a log leaning over a cliffside with a Small Spirit Ore sitting on the end of it. Grab it, head back to the field, then head forward until you run into a set of cliffs that act as platforms stair-stepping down. Keep hopping down until you reach an area with a cave.

There is another one of those Crypt Devourers waiting to ambush you in front of that cave. Use a javelin to kill it, then, move through the cave, and you’ll encounter a fork in the road.

Go straight, and you’ll find a cavern with two more Crypt Devourers. One is already out of the ground, so, throw a javelin at the one hiding. After killing the second groundworm, open the chest to get a Pligrim’s Dual Wield, Plgrim’s Ring, Necklace of Faith, and a Fire Cleansing Potion.

The First Soulstone

Head back to the fork, go to the side, kill the Crypt Devourer in here, then climb the ladder. At the top of the ladder is a Soulstone (1/3) – destroy it, head down, and you will be back at the front of the cave. From here, start heading down the cliffside until you reach the village.

If you hop down too fast, and miss the cave, you won’t be able to make your way back up. You’ll have to go back to the Crevice and warp back to the Cabin on the Cliff Blade Nexus.

Hop down from platform to platform, and you will witness villagers being attacked by dragonkin. Once you are in control of Khazan again, you’ll need to kill a Dragonkin Sharpshooter and the new Berserk Dragon’s Tracker. The Tracker is one of the two new dragonkin enemies you’ll encounter in this stage. Their whole thing is that they are able to fling themselves at you with a spinning axe attack – this move hits twice, so if you are perfect guarding, perform a double tap.

Before you progress any further, you may want to consider equipping pieces of Hunter Armor if you have any on hand. You can get up to a 25% damage bonus against dragonkin from this armor set, and from here on out you will almost exclusively be fighting dragonkin.

Similarly, maybe invest in the Javelin: Charge, and Javelin: Sharpening skills, as you will be fighting a number of tough enemies and you’ll often be able to get a javelin off on them before they attack.

Once you finish killing them, move forward, and you will reach the Phraugh Village Docks Blade Nexus. Turn the corner and hop down where the giant blood smear is. After dealing with some dragonkin, you’ll find Concentrated Lightning Essence and three Vitality Spheres.

Lunatic Destroyer Miniboss

The Lunatic Destroyer in the First Act of Revenge in The First Berserker Khazan.

There are two willpower orbs sitting beside the dragonkin sitting at the end of the dock. Nearby, there is a massive dragonkin with a giant hammer. Unlike the previous massive dragonkins you’ve fought, this one is shockingly fast. When they start slamming their hammer down rapidly, they’ll strike five times in total.

Beyond that, their wide-swinging attacks aren’t all that fast, but they can be deceptively rangy. If you think you are far enough away that his strikes will miss, maybe take a few more steps backward. Just to be safe. The biggest issue you’ll be contending with is how dangerous the environment you’ll be fighting him is. It is easy to fall into the water and die. So, when you have the chance, you may want to make a run across the bridge and into the area with the stairs.

He has a wide swinging attack that you will want to dodge through, as it has a shocking amount of range. And an unblockable burst attack where he will charge forward before swiping his hammer upward. I won’t lie, this guy is a bit of a handful. As per usual, make sure to hit him with a few javelins before the encounter begins in earnest to soften him up.

If you are feeling up to it, performing 30 Brink Guards before you kill him will reward you with the Forgotten Warrior’s Scroll from Daphrona’s Codex.

The lift back to the Phraugh Village Docks area in the First Act of Revenge in The First Berserker Khazan.

In the area past the miniboss, you’ll find some Soul Tears. Up above, there is a door and a contraption that will carry you across the ravine. Jump on the contraption before you go through the doors. That will activate it, opening up a shortcut back to the Phraugh Village Docks Blade Nexus.

The Second Soulstone

The second Soulstone in The First Act Of Betrayal section of The First Berserker Khazan.

Now progress forward, and open those giant doors. Once you open the doors, you’ll need to kill a few dragonkin. This will be your first encounter with an alternate form of Sharpshooter that throws bombs instead of using a bow and arrow. Once you’ve cleared them out, look around the corner, to the left of the door, there is another Soulstone (2/3) tucked away beside the door.

Climb the stairs to get a Small Spirit Ore. Once in the village, kill the pair of dragonkin behind the Tracker, by dropping the debris on their heads (don’t worry, you will be given a little tutorial about using the javelin on objects in this stage, so it will all make sense when you are there). Left of the entrance, there’s a dragonkin looting a body, kill it, then grab the nearby Water Enhancer. Break through the boarded-up entrance of the house that the Tracker was standing in front of, then climb the ladder inside.

Kill the Dragon’s Talon up here, and open the treasure chest. There is a Contorted Spear, Hunter’s Helm, Shieldsman’s Ring, and Lightning Enhancer inside. Now, climb down the ladder and you’ll find a Water Enhancer. Head through the blacksmith’s shop and you’ll fight a couple more dragonkin.

The clearing filled with hidden dragonkin in the First Act Of Betrayal section of The First Berserker Khazan.

Head down the ladder, and you’ll be in another open area. There is a Dragon’s Talon rummaging through something on the main path in front of you, a Sentinel patrolling the street, and on your right, in the field, there is a sharpshooter. There are Sentinels and Talons resting in the nearby buildings as well. Before you clear out this section, grab the Poison Resistance Elixir on your right.

If the patrolling dragonkin sees you, it’ll alert the nearby dragonkin, and you’ll need to fight five of them all at once. So, take them out quickly. The house on your right has a Necklace of Sealed Fire. Continue forward, and you’ll find one of those giant Masterless Guardian Dragonkin – those are the guys with the massive clubs. He is as slow as ever. Just dodge through his big swings and punish him accordingly. Head up the hill to get some Soul Tears, then head back down the path.

Whatever you do, don’t lose the Necklace of Sealed Fire. It is going to be a key piece of your equipment set for the first third of the game. Especially when you square off against this stage’s boss.

After climbing up a ladder, you’ll encounter a few dogs. There is also a transmutation orb nearby. Head forward on the main path, but take your first right. You’ll find the Central Storehouse Entrance Blade Nexus.

Head back to the main path, jump down into a cave, and follow the walkway until you are on top of a roof. Hop down, kill the Dragonkin, and head into the giant storehouse. After you take out a batch of Wild Dogs, grab the vitality sphere. Climb the nearby ladder, and you’ll fight a pair of Dragonkin.

Make sure to open the nearby chest – you’ll get a Contorted Spear, Hunter’s Helm, Cleric’s Ring, and Concentrated Water Essence. Drop down from the loft, and you’ll be in a narrow hallway. Follow it to get to the house with the Evacuation Order scroll. From there, head back into the barn.

You won’t have unlocked them yet, but once you have unlocked the ability to find Jarlings, the Phraugh Village Jarling will be located in that hallway that leads to the Evacuation Order scroll.

Double-Edged Butcher Miniboss

The Epic Double-Edged Butcher in the First Act of Revenge in The First Berserker Khazan.

Once you are back in the barn, leave through those massive doors. You’ll come face to face with Dragonkin Double-Edged Butcher. He is an epic version of the one you fought in the underground section of the Forgotten Temple. The only thing different about him is that his spear is imbued with lightning. However, you’ve already killed Viper, and this dude is just a weaker version of him with fewer moves, so you shouldn’t struggle too much.

Once you defeat the Butcher miniboss, you’ll get the Butcher’s Pauldrons, Butcher’s Leggings, Soul Eater’s Pants, Water Spirit’s Fuel, and two Inner Essences. The Ashen Wolf Scroll is also in this area, so make sure to grab it. Now, start heading up the hill, you’ll see some dragonkin. Don’t worry, a giant boulder will fall. Unfortunately, now you will need to outrun it. Once you’ve avoided the boulder, head up the hill and through the gate. There are more Soul Tears here.

Killing the Butcher while they are staggered will reward you with ten Water Enhancers from Daphrona’s Codex. To stagger him, just strike his head. The Dual Wield’s Whirlwind ability is very effective at stunning him, as it will bring you down directly on his noggin.

The Third Soulstone

The third Soulstone in The First Act Of Betrayal section of The First Berserker Khazan.

This is also where you’ll claim your final Soulstone (3/3). It is just sitting at the top of the stairs on the raised platform across from the barn.

A horde of dragonkin will swarm you. Once you clear them out, collect the nearby Water Spirit Fuel. Hop down, and you’ll be in an area filled with more Wild Dogs. In the nearby house you’ll find A Folklorist’s Log. Climb up the ladder on the main path, and you’ll encounter another big hammer-using Lunatic Destroyers. All the same advice we provided earlier still applies.

The final Lunatic Destroyer in the First Act of Revenge chapter of The First Berserker Khazan.

Once you deal with them, you’ll be in the final stretch. Just head straight down the path, destroy the cart blocking your path to open up access to the Central Storehouse Entrance Blade Nexus, and the boss will be just past the bridge that was next to that big pile of rubble. Buckle up, though, as the Volbaino boss isn’t messing around.

If you are worn down from all the fighting, and low on Nether Energy, you can run past the Lunatic Destroyers, kick down the cart, and activate the Blade Nexus. That way, you can go back and challenge him again without fear of having to repeat a section of the stage.
