Although Naoe and Yasuke will both mainly be focused on taking down the Shinbakfu in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, they also have some personal journeys of their own to go on that shine light on their pasts.

It wouldn’t be an Assassin’s Creed game without that classic white and red outfit, now would it?
Naoe’s personal journey is tied to finding out what happened to her mother and the assassin order she formed. After starting the trail and getting the Apprentice Assassin outfit, she’ll have to go and find some outposts – here’s where they all are.
What Are Assassin Outposts?
Once you’ve cleared the mission Secrets of the Blade and kickstarted Naoe’s personal journey, she’ll note that there are four assassin outposts that she needs to investigate to find out more about her past. You might not have realised it at the time, but those outposts are actually linked to the “Path of” locations you might have run into in the open world.
Each of the four outposts can be found on some of those paths, which might mean retreading your steps to find them. Once you get there, you’ll find a note that advances the quest line a bit more and expands Naoe’s personal journey. Here’s every outpost and how to reach them.
Omi Assassin Outpost
One of the first outposts can be found in Omi, and it’s located on the Path of the Blade. This path is fairly simple and requires a lot of climbing and a bit of grapple hooking around to reach the end. When you get to the end, you’ll find the assassin order logo and a note that can be picked up to expand the story. If you’ve not been here before, you’ll also find a treasure chest that gives you Sumire’s Gear, an Epic Light Armor.
Iga Assassin Outpost
Next up on the assassin outpost hunt is Iga, and the outpost here is found on the trail of the Path of the Shadows which is located to the south of Nabari Wilds. This outpost is similar to the others, but requires a bit more thought with where you grapple and which rocks to climb up in order to finish it. Once you do, though, you’ll find another assassin outpost with a note continuing the quest. If it’s your first time, you’ll also get the Yu-no-shin’s Gear Epic Light Armor.
Yamato Assassin Outpost
We’re nearly done with the assassin outposts, and the one in Yamato is linked to the Path of Secrets near Kompira Shrine. Be prepared to once again do a lot of platforming, grapple hooking, and climbing to get through this path. At the end of it, you’ll find another note, as well as some gear for Naoe to equip if it’s her first time going through the challenge. Be prepared, though, as the last one is the toughest.
Kii Assassin Outpost
The final assassin outpost on the list is found in Kii and it’s linked to the Path of the Chosen near the Iseji Trails on the east side of the map near the coast. Head here and walk across the rope to start the challenge, which will mostly have you climbing up rocks along the cliffside. You’ll eventually circle up to where the outpost is, but not before taking on a very tough foe.
This character is one of the Yambushi Imposters and he’s much stronger than you’d expect for a quest that can reasonably be taken on at any time. In fact, he was such a high level that he appeared as a skull when I faced him and could kill me in one hit. If you’re just trying to clear the quest no matter what level you are, you’re going to have to be a bit tricky with how you deal with him.
For me, this meant using Naoe’s kusarigama to attack from a distance, both with heavy Posture attacks and moves that could grapple and send the enemy flying off the cliffside. This took a few attempts, but once I was done I could read the note, open the treasure chest, and finish the questline.
You won’t have to worry about Naoe’s assassin quests until much later on in the game when you’ve taken down the Shinbakfu and moved on to the epilogue.
