Summary
- The upcoming season will focus on Ellie and Joel in Jackson, diving into the aftermath of season one’s emotional finale.
- The Last of Us Season 2 rumor states that a big actor could star in an undisclosed role in episode 6.
- Viewers speculate that the big actor reveal could be Jamie Lee Curtis or Sarah Paulson.
Just as fans of HBO’s The Last of Us prepare for the return of the highly anticipated post-apocalyptic series next month, a recent rumor seems to indicate that there could be one more big actor reveal set to join the rest of its cast members. So far, the show’s new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Jeffrey Wright and Catherine O’Hara also coming in to play Issac and Gail.
HBO’s acclaimed drama series The Last of Us will be returning with seven new episodes to follow up on its heart-pounding season one finale, in which Ellie could be seen asking Joel to swear to her that everything he had told her about what happened back in the Fireflies hospital was true. Now, five years after season one’s emotional ending, viewers will get to witness the aftermath of Ellie’s doubts and how the pair have faired in Jackson ever since. Although Season 2 will follow the events of Naughty Dog’s second game in the franchise, it won’t cover all of it as the TV adaptation of the sequel will look to stretch out over multiple seasons, which makes sense given the game’s massive scope. As season 2’s premiere draws nearer, there could still be some more surprises up HBO’s sleeve concerning one big actor cast member reveal.

Here’s what even the most eagle eyed fans may have not noticed in the trailer for Season 2 of The Last of Us TV show.
The Last of Us Season 2 Could See a Famous Actor Star in a Currently Undisclosed Role
According to a recent rumor on X/Twitter originally posted by @MrHooboMaster, The Last of Us Season 2 has yet to reveal a big star for an unannounced character that will show up in episode 6 of the show, “with the potential to become one of the audience’s favorite episodes.” MrHooboMaster’s claims were backed up by well-known leaker ViewerAnon, who became famous for breaking other big stories involving The Last of Us franchise like the canceled Naughty Dog multiplayer game, as well as disclosing that The Last of Us Part 3 was in development in December of last year and that the voice actress for Ellie, Ashley Johnson, would be playing Anna in the HBO adaptation. ViewerAnon also replied in a Reddit thread on the leak that “it’s a cool actor playing a very intriguing character in episode 6.”
In a tweet, MHM stated that “1 huge unannounced (star is) missing” when they retweeted a current cast member post for The Last of Us season 2 and stated that there were “three As” in the cryptic tease, seemingly meaning that it would involve the actor’s name as well as the character they would play. MHM stated that they didn’t want to spoil who this big actor or character would be, sending not on Twitter, but Reddit into a frenzy about who this could be, if true. Some of the guesses so far have been Jamie Lee Curtis, as her name seemingly fits the blank spaces as to who fans think could play the leader of the Seraphites, the Prophet. Sarah Paulson’s name has also been thrown around, but some others think that the tease could be referring to a big actor who could come in to play Jerry in a flashback scene or even a younger Joel.
It goes without saying that rumors should always be taken with a pinch of salt until it has officially been announced by HBO or Naughty Dog, but it’s certainly an intriguing tease and, as many fans know, the co-creators of the show, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, do love to surprise fans so it doesn’t seem too far-fetched for them to throw in a huge star in a surprise role towards the end of The Last of Us Season two. As for now, viewers may just have to wait until episode 6 of Season 2 to find out if this rumor is real or not, or maybe HBO might make a big announcement before the show’s premiere to get fans even more hyped for its return.
The Last of Us season two will premiere on April 13 on HBO Max.
