Invincible is an adult animated superhero series on Amazon Prime Video. It was adapted from Robert Kirkman’s comic book. Kirkman also serves as executive producer, co-creator and writer of the series. The show follows teenager Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who discovers that he has inherited superpowers from his father, Omni-Man, the Earth’s greatest superhero. He embraces his new identity, Invincible, but he faces the challenge of being a hero and his father’s betrayal that changes his life forever. Many are drawn to the animated series because of its non-traditional take on superhero stories. It deconstructs the genre and shows the realistic consequences of superpowers. Invincible Season 3 just ended, but it was renewed for a fourth season and would return by introducing the main antagonist in the franchise.

Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman explained why they didn’t bring Spawn and more in the show.

All episodes of Invincible Season 3 have been released. Invincible’s official account on X, formerly Twitter, gave an update about the upcoming season since there was nothing left to share for Season 3. The post announced that Invincible will return for another season in 2026. Additionally, “Voice acting is complete,” suggesting that they could probably return early next year. That’s not all, the post also teased a new storyline and the arrival of the big bad — Thragg. The post added, “There may be a new storyline not in the comic featuring Darkblood. Thragg has been cast.” It also jokingly added that its main character, “Invincible has also been cast.” It has been a running gag to clarify that Invincible will return in the next season, which is expected since he is the main character.

Grand Regent Thragg is the ultimate villain in Invincible. In the comics, he made his debut in Invincible #11. However, he hasn’t appeared in Amazon Prime Video’s TV series but will finally appear in Season 4. Despite his absence from the show, Mark’s father Omni-Man mentions him and even warns his son about the supervillain, telling Mark that Thragg is the leader of the Viltrumites. In the upcoming season, fans will finally see the most powerful warrior from the Viltrumite Empire in action. Mark’s battle with Thragg is the most brutal in the entire Invincible series because it is more than just a physical fight. The pair’s ideals, strength and survival clash, putting the future of the Viltrumites and the universe at stake. Thragg has been preparing an army of Viltrumite-hybrids to wipe out Mark and his allies. Mark, now a fully matured warrior, leads the Viltrumite survivors who reject Thragg’s rule. Their all-out war kills both the Viltrumites and the heroes. It’s an epic battle and definitely an episode to watch out for.

However, since Invincible Season 4 will serve as Thragg’s introduction to the show, it’s unlikely that the epic battle will happen in the same season. Fans will probably have to wait for more seasons before they see the all-out war between Mark and Thragg because there needs to be enough time for character development for Thragg and Mark. Also, their face-off will serve as the show’s culmination, so Kirkman will likely put that off for a while. Kirkman previously told Collider that he and showrunner Simon Racioppa have already mapped out the show based on the comics. They had already decided where to stop, and they agreed that they could run for up to eight seasons. He added that it could be shorter –– seven seasons or longer –– up to 10 seasons. So, Mark and Thragg’s ultimate face-off could still be years from now.

Invincible streams on Amazon Prime Video and Season 4 will arrive in 2026.
