Late last week, Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket surprisingly revealed that its next expansion, Shining Revelry, is coming later this month. Although only a Themed Booster, much like Triumphant Light and Mythical Island, the expansion has fans stressing that things are moving too fast, and preparing for the inevitable meta shake-up that’s set to follow.
The reveal trailer for the set showed off around 20 of the 110 new cards that the expansion will have to offer, and players have already been looking at these cards, deciding how they’re going to swing the meta.
Based on the cards we’ve already seen in Shining Revelry, the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket meta is set for another major upheaval, and players are already planning their next moves.
The Tree Gets Stronger
One Pokemon that rose to prominence during Triumphant Light was Sudowoodo. Used for its ability to hit Arceus ex hard and fast, the Pokemon quickly went from meme to meta-stomper. Unfortunately for Arceus ex users, it’s about to get a whole lot worse.
Sudowoodo’s Fighting Headbutt attack had the ability to KO Arceus ex in two turns, provided it didn’t have the Giant Cape Pokemon Tool attached to it. Now, it can KO it in two turns, regardless of whether it has the Giant Cape, thanks to the new supporter card, Red.
Red allows Pokemon to do an extra 20 damage to ex cards the turn it’s played. This means, as pointed out by ZzLow96 on Reddit, that the card can do 20 damage as its base, +30 damage against ex cards, +20 damage against Arceus ex’s weakness, and +20 damage from Red, for a total of 90 damage against Arceus from a single energy. It’s a powerhouse.
Charizard ex Power Creeps Moltres ex
Naturally, there is going to be some power creep each time a new expansion is revealed, and Moltres ex is unfortunately likely to be a casualty of Shining Revelry, thanks to a new Charizard ex and its Stoke move, which allows it to attach three fire energies to itself.
While there is some debate as to whether the new Charizard ex is better than the old Charizard ex/Moltres ex combo, the new card looks like it definitely has some viability.
Wugtrio Is The New Dragonite, Really
In reality, Dragonite should stomp Wugtrio. In Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s new expansion, that’s not the case, and it’s likely the Water-type Pokemon will replace the Dragon-type one.
Dragonite has the ability to deal 50 damage four times to random Pokemon, but it’s a Stage 2 card, and requires both a Water-type and Lightning-type energy to be successful, making it difficult to set up.
Wugtrio is similar, but way easier to get off the ground. It’s a Stage 1 card, meaning it needs less RNG to set up, and only requires three Water-type energy to deal 50 damage to random Pokemon three times. Sure, that’s 50 less damage than Dragonite, but given the versatility of Water-type decks, it’s much easier to incorporate.
The New Pikachu ex Is Going To Be A Menace
Given the strength of the Water-type meta, it’s important for there to be strong counters, and Shining Revelry might just be about to introduce the strongest.
Pikachu ex, a Basic Pokemon, can hit for 150 damage off three energies. Sure, it has to discard them after, but it has the power to wipe out almost any Water-type Pokemon pretty quickly.
