Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Announce Late March Seven-Star Tera Raid

Summary

  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will feature Tyranitar as a Seven-Star Tera Raid boss.
  • Tyranitar the Unrivaled will appear for battles from March 27 to 30, and again from April 3 to 6.
  • Tyranitar will be a Tera-Ghost Raid boss with high physical attack and defense stats.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet revealed that the next Seven-Star Tera Raid battle will pit trainers against Tyranitar, the pseudo-legendary Pokemon of the Johto region. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players will have two opportunities to battle and catch Tyranitar the Unrivaled, and successful trainers will be rewarded for their efforts.

Known as the Armor Pokemon, Tyranitar first appeared in Pokemon Gold and Silver. Tyranitar is the fully-evolved form of Larvitar and Pupitar and has the unique dual-typing of Rock and Dark. Tyranitar’s design is influenced by famous kaiju like Godzilla, and it can use powerful attacks like Stone Edge, Crunch, and Earthquake to devastate enemy teams. In Pokemon X and Y, Tyranitar gained a Mega Evolution, where its high HP and physical attack stats were further amplified. Tyranitar previously appeared in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid battles as a FIve-Star boss alongside Salamence, but its upcoming reign as a Seven-Star boss will be its first.

Tyranitar the Unrivaled will have the Ghost-type as its Tera type and will grant the Mightiest Mark to trainers who defeat it. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Reveal Tyranitar Tera Raids (Late March 2025)

  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have Tyranitar as a Seven-Star Tera Raid boss.
  • Tyranitar the Unrivaled will appear from March 27 to 30, and again from April 3 to 6.
  • Tyranitar will be a Tera-Ghost Tera Raid boss, with high physical attack and defense.
  • Dark and Ghost Pokemon like Annihilape and Ting-Lu could be useful counters.

Although Tyranitar can normally be obtained by catching and evolving a Larvitar, the Armor Pokemon will be level 100 when caught in this Tera Raid battle. Tyranitar the Unrivaled will have either Sand Stream or Unnerve as its ability, but neither should prove much of a problem for seasoned Pokemon trainers. But, Tyranitar’s high physical attack and physical defense stats will pose a problem for some Pokemon teams. Additionally, Tyranitar can use moves like Shadow Claw, Breaking Swipe, and Low Kick for coverage against Ghost and Dark Pokemon, which are super-effective against the Tera-Ghost type.

Pokemon such as Annihilape, Ting-Lu, or Urshifu could power through Tyranitar’s assault and counter with strong attacks of their own. While Tyranitar the Unrivaled will be a powerful Ghost Pokemon boss, it remains to be seen what strategies Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players develop in the days ahead.
