Palworld‘s communications director, John Buckley, has recently commented on a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port for the popular monster-taming game, stating that if the console is powerful enough, it’s “100% worth considering.” Unfortunately for Palworld fans, the game never made it to the Switch due to the handheld console’s technical limitations. However, Pocketpair is open to the idea of launching the game for its successor as long as it can adequately handle it.

With the Switch 2 officially announced back in January, fans continue to wonder what games will be ported to Nintendo’s next-gen handheld console. Although rumors have circulated that certain titles, like Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, will launch for the new console, many details about the system are still under wraps. When Palworld was released in January 2024, comparisons with Pokemon were almost unavoidable, as the community immediately noticed the similarities with the popular franchise—similarities that make it a very suitable title for the Switch. However, according to Pocketpair, Palworld is too “beefy” for the Switch, preventing fans from experiencing the game on the console. Nevertheless, there may be good news for Palworld fans as the Nintendo Switch 2 nears release.

As reported by IGN, during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Palworld‘s communications director, John Buckley, addressed the question of Palworld’s potential release on the Nintendo Switch 2. He commented that Pocketpair is “100% open” to the idea as long as the new system can seamlessly run it.

However, like many in the industry, the studio is still waiting to learn the Switch 2’s specs. Pocketpair needs more details on the system to determine whether the game will actually run on the console. “Like everyone else, we’re waiting,” Buckley said. Additionally, he commented on the positive results of bringing the game to the Steam Deck. He emphasized how many optimizations the game required to run smoothly on Steam’s handheld console, stressing that the studio is eager to release the game on more handheld platforms if possible.

Meanwhile, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company remain entangled in legal drama with Pocketpair over alleged patent infringement. Although this situation has yet to be resolved, the Palworld developer has shifted its focus back to improving the game’s experience for players by releasing new updates packed with content and features—and potentially bringing it to the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
