During the Minecraft LIVE on Saturday, March 22, Mojang revealed some of the new features set to come to Minecraft in 2025, including the new Dried Ghast, Ghastling, and Happy Ghast progression and Locator Bar.

These new features are set to add something unique and never before considered to Minecraft as part of the games’ new seasonal drop system. Here’s everything we know so far:

Minecraft Ghastling and Locator Bar Summer 2025 Drop

Here’s all the info about the next drop, which is predicted to arrive in Summer 2025. There’s no official name for the drop yet, so we’ll just refer to it by the Ghastling and Locator Bar – the two primary features.

Given the theme, we’d guess this drop will be “friend” themed, given it’s about both finding your friends in multiplayer and taming a new friendly mob to assist you in-game.

Dried Ghasts and Ghastlings

The first major thing that will be added in the Summer 2025 drop, as revealed at the Minecraft LIVE March 2025 event, will be in the existing Soul Sand Valley Nether biomes. There, around the bone structures you’ll already be familiar with, you’ll now find a new sad face hidden away, the Dried Ghast. Dried Ghasts can also reportedly be crafted using Ghast Tears and Bone Blocks.

If you take a Dried Ghast to the overworld, and submerge it in water, it will slowly become happier and then revive into a Ghastling.

If you feed the creature Snowballs, it’ll grow until it becomes the friendly, non-hostile Happy Ghast.

You can then craft a special Ghast Harness and ride the ghast as a flying machine. You can also have up to four people riding a ghast. And once you dismount a Happy Ghast you can use the creatures as a platform to build high in the sky. This is actually a better alternative to scaffolding or Elytra for building structures in the sky or high in the air.

Minecraft Locator Bar

The other new feature, something that was actually already teased in a recent snapshot, is the locator bar. Replacing the experience bar, which will now only appear if you gain experience, the locator bar is a way to find your friends in multiplayer lobbies.

This feature can also be bypassed with stealth, by sneaking (crouching), wearing a mob head or carved pumpkin, or drinking a potion of invisibility.

It’s also potentially going to be linked to the new Lodestone recipe. And lodestone locations will appear on the locator bar.

Beyond this update, there’s of course the new Minecraft features, such as the Spring to Life Drop, that are coming to the game in the next few weeks.
