Summary

  • Marvel Rivals players are calling on each other to report every player who uses Jeff and Doctor Strange to trap unsuspecting players out of bounds.
  • Showcased earlier today, Doctor Strange can use his portal to access out-of-bounds areas, and Jeff can use his ult to spit players into it.
  • Doctor Strange then switches characters to shut the portal, sealing the players in with no way out, other than disconnecting and joining again.

Marvel Rivals is not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination. While there are many impressive technological feats, a lot of the game feels like it’s put together with strings and prayers, which leads to NetEase stamping out bugs fairly consistently. Just this season, we’ve seen Moon Knight’s ult do more damage than intended, an unintentional Peni Parker nerf, and players were being swallowed by Jeff despite being outside his ult.

With how janky Marvel Rivals can be at times, it’s no surprise that we now have another exploit to deal with, and this is arguably the most nefarious of them all. Earlier today, a Reddit user called Diapy recently shared a replay of one of their games to the Marvel Rivals subreddit, in which an enemy Jeff and Doctor Strange teamed up to trap a bunch of players.

Jeff Is Being A Problem Yet Again

In their video – which you can find embedded above – we can see Jeff using his ult to swallow an unsuspecting Squirrel Girl and Luna Snow. Fairly standard stuff, up until we see a Doctor Strange portal open to absolutely nowhere and Jeff throw them through, leaving both players stranded in a black box situated somewhere out of bounds.

Doctor Strange then quickly switches to Venom, snapping shut the portal immediately so the two players can’t get out again. Since there’s no way to do yourself in at the moment, these two players are now faced with either staying in that box for the entire game, or disconnecting from the game and then reloading, which can waste minutes at a time.

Marvel Rivals Really Doesn’t Need Crossovers

There’s enough content to mine in Marvel alone. Why look elsewhere?

To make matters worse, we can see that this has happened in at least three games, all of them ranked. We also know that these two are part of a team and have been doing this consistently, as one is called JeffToJail, while the other is called PortalToPrison.

As for what’s happening, it seems as though there are spots in various in certain maps in which Doctor Strange can have half of his portal access an out-of-bounds area, which Jeff spits his victims into. It would be funny if it wasn’t such a rancid way to completely ruin a competitive game by potentially stopping half a team from playing.

Understandably, Marvel Rivals fans are now moving en masse to report these two players, and are urging everyone who encounters these kinds of shenanigans to report the individuals responsible. It’s definitely a case of exploiting a bug to get a leg up, which is a bannable offense, so that’s the best we can do until NetEase does something about it. It was quick to fix the Peni Parker goof, so here’s hoping we’re not waiting too long.
