Liquid and Falcons eliminated after latest BLAST Open Spring 2025 matches

Another day, another four teams eliminated from BLAST Open Spring 2025. Today was all about the lower brackets, with teams desperate to stay alive and remain in with a chance of heading to Lisbon for the Playoffs next week. There’s still a lot of Counter-Strike to play before a winner is crowned, but that doesn’t mean the action hasn’t been intense.

Let’s take a look at the highlight stories from today’s four matches at BLAST Open Spring 2025!

Virtus.pro see out absurd Falcons series

Virtus.pro vs. Falcons might be one of the funniest series we’ll see all year. For Falcons hate-watchers, this was pretty much the dream series. On all three maps, Falcons took a commanding lead. They blew said lead all three times, and only managed to see out one of the maps. 2:1 to Virtus.pro was the final score, in a series that they really should have had no business winning. Falcons dropping a 12:5 lead on the map three decider (that’s seven match points) and then losing in triple overtime tells you everything you need to know about this one.

It wasn’t even a particularly poor series for the individuals on Falcons. Their shots were hitting just fine, but they just couldn’t activate any kind of killer instinct to see this series out. It’s another rough performance for Falcons, one they’ll need to put behind them quickly if they’re going to find any success this year. It’s back to the drawing board for zonic.

Liquid disappoint once again

I really can’t imagine the pain and suffering of being a North American Counter-Strike fan. Watching Team Liquid flounder against The MongolZ was a miserable experience, one that proved that this Twistzz IGL experiment needs to come to an end. 2:0 was the score in the series, but even the 13:7 and 13:8 individual maps flatter the Team Liquid performance we saw here.

For all the flak he has taken on this roster, jks was the only player who showed up here. The rest of the team were fully outclassed by an impressive performance by The MongolZ, leading to yet another disappointing CS2 tournament result for Team Liquid. This lineup need results, and they need them fast.

Spirit continue winning run over FaZe Clan

After this match, I was surprised to discover that the last time FaZe Clan beat Spirit in a series was at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, 12 months ago. That run did not end at BLAST Open Spring 2025, with Spirit taking a dominant 2:0 win to stay alive in this competitive lower bracket. It was a series that FaZe lost, rather than Spirit won, with a silly number of man advantages squandered in this one. Spirit must have felt Christmas had come early, there were so many gifts.

It was also a series that displayed Spirit’s quality when magixx and zont1x are online. This duo put up big numbers here, easing the burden even when things weren’t all coming up donk. Whenever they play well, Spirit seem to ascend to another level, and that’s exactly what it’ll take for them to win this event against the Vitality machine later down the line.

m0NESY carries G2 vs. M80

G2 are very, very lucky to have m0NESY on their team. Without him, they simply wouldn’t be relevant, a statement only further proven by his carry performance here against M80. The AWP prodigy put up 53 kills across two maps in this series, ensuring that no matter how strong M80 looked at times, G2 always had an Ace up their sleeve.

It’s no secret that m0NESY’s contract is set to run out at some point in the near future. No concrete date is known, although rumors suggest it’s the end of the year. That is becoming more of a ticking time bomb for G2 as it remains unresolved, because so much of their success relies on him. This M80 series is just another reminder of that.

With just one day of play remaining in the Group Stage of BLAST Open Spring 2025, tomorrow’s matches look like this:

Group A

  • MOUZ vs. Vitality (Upper Bracket Final)
  • Virtus.pro vs. Spirit (Lower Bracket Final)

Group B

  • Eternal Fire vs. NAVI (Upper Bracket Final)
  • The MongolZ vs. G2 (Lower Bracket Final)

The Upper Bracket Finals will decide which team gets an automatic Semi-Final berth, while the Lower Bracket Finals are played to determine the last two teams heading to Lisbon at the Quarter-Final stage.
