Michael Connelly Was Happy That The Original Bosch Series Was Given A Chance To End Properly
Back in 2020, the original Bosch series was heading into its sixth season when Amazon gave it an early renewal for a seventh and final run. It was a vote of confidence for Michael Connelly and the rest of the creative team, and it gave them the chance to end Harry Bosch’s story properly. Connelly released a statement via Deadline:
I’m proud of what we have accomplished with Bosch and look forward to completing the story in Season 7. It’s bittersweet, but all good things come to an end, and I am happy that we will be able to go out the way we want to.
The original Bosch finale stuck the landing, but it also left the door open for potential stories focused on Harry Bosch’s post-LAPD career in the private sector. When Amazon launched Freevee, they ordered Bosch: Legacy and the fans got their wish for more Harry Bosch, and it became a bigger hit than the parent show. Amazon kept backing the creative team with early renewals for the second and third seasons of Bosch: Legacy, and its success also led to the announcement of the Renee Ballard and Jerry Edgar spin-offs. Unfortunately, Bosch: Legacy was canceled without giving Connelly and his team the chance to end it properly. Connelly stated he was happy to go out the way he wanted to after Amazon’s announcement that the seventh season of the original Bosch series would be the last, so surely he was outraged they didn’t give them the chance to end Bosch: Legacy properly, right?

Michael Connelly Said Bosch: Legacy’s Final Season Is A Fitting End For Harry Bosch Despite It Being Canceled
Bosch: Legacy was canceled by Amazon back in September 2024, but Michael Connelly released an uplifting statement and seemed happy about it:
I’m happy to announce that the third season of Bosch: Legacy will premiere on Prime in March. I think it’s our best yet. It will also be the last season, bringing to a fitting close a 10-season run with this character.
Bosch: Legacy‘s fitting close has been debunked by two of Connelly’s closest allies, Titus Welliver and Renee Ballard inspiration, Mitzi Roberts. However, Connelly still won’t speak his mind about how he really feels about Bosch: Legacy‘s abrupt cancelation, but his statement about the original Bosch series heavily suggests he isn’t very happy about it. It looks like Amazon are walking all over the legendary author because they own the rights to the IP, and hold the cards with the Ballard spin-off on the horizon. It’s a great shame when creative people are stifled by talentless executives, but that seems to be the case here. However, this wasn’t always how it was between Connelly and Amazon, but something has clearly changed at the top. After Amazon gave Connelly and the creative team the heads-up to work towards an ending to the original Bosch series, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios, Albert Cheng, released the following statement:
Bosch was one of our first Amazon Originals, and it helped define us as a home for smartly written, captivating series. It has been a pleasure to work with Eric, Henrik [Bastin], Michael (Connelly), Pieter Jan [Brugge], Dan [Pyne], Titus and the entire Bosch team. We’re delighted that we get to spend another season with Harry Bosch and conclude this wonderful television series for our Prime Video customers.
Amazon used to have respect for Michael Connelly and the Bosch fans, but this new content strategy and the shift in focus towards advertisements and enticing the younger demographic to sign up has shut down the expansion of the Connelly-verse.
