Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 Physical Version Comes With a Catch

Summary

  • PS5 physical copies of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will require an online download.
  • Leaker suggests a April 17, 2025, release date with a Premium edition coming out two days prior.
  • Unclear if an internet connection will be required after initial download or the update size.

The physical versions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for PlayStation 5 will still require an online download, according to one leaker. Many details around the game’s PS5 release are still murky, as Bethesda has not commented much on it after announcing the Sony port, so fans have had to largely rely on rumors and leaks. One of the latest of these rumblings suggests that the PS5’s physical copies of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle may not be quite what some players expect.

Microsoft confirmed that Indiana Jones would get a PlayStation release before the title even came out on Xbox. However, there’s still no official release day in sight, although a leaker has claimed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will come to PS5 on April 17, 2025, with a Premium edition coming out two days prior. Both the Premium and Standard versions are supposed to ship with a hard copy of the game, as is the case with their Xbox counterparts, but now it seems there’s a catch.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 Version Gets Encouraging Update

The upcoming PlayStation 5 version of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle gets an encouraging update.

Leaker Billbil-kun, who was also the source of the release day leak, took to Twitter to clarify that both PS5 versions of Indiana Jones will have an actual disc but will still require an online download to play the game. That’s not unusual in today’s environment, especially for a game of this size. Physical copies of Monster Hunter Wilds required a 15GB update to play, although the title was technically playable offline without it. As a single-player title, though, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle doesn’t necessarily need online features, so the download requirement may still be a disappointment to some fans who wanted to keep things entirely local. It’s also unclear if an internet connection will be required after the initial download or how big the update is.

PS5 Disc Versions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Require a Download to Play

The download may rub some fans of physical media the wrong way, especially in light of how earlier editions have handled hard copies. The Indiana Jones Collector’s Edition doesn’t ship with any discs despite coming in a physical package. However, the Standard and Premium versions on Xbox did have discs. It’s an unusual approach that lands somewhere between a full physical launch and a digital-only release, so it leaves fans uncertain about how the studio may approach physical releases in the future.

Physical editions of games have been a contentious topic in recent years. The Avowed SteelBook had no disc despite its label as a “physical” version. It seems like the PS5 physical editions will avoid that fate, but it’s unclear if the mandatory download is simply a matter of not all content being able to fit on a disc or a larger move away from hard copies.
