How To Recruit Yagoro In Assassin's Creed Shadows

As you make your way through Assassin’s Creed Shadows and work to take down the Shinbakfu and liberate Feudal Japan, you’ll need to find people who are willing to help out the order. Yasuke and Naoe can’t do all the work, after all.

Ibuki is one of Yasuke’s optional romances and a potential ally – here’s how to meet them.

There are a lot of potential recruits to be found in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but one of the most interesting is a young warrior named Yagoro, who has a blade that’s suspiciously similar to Naoe’s. Read on to find out what that’s all about.

A Blade In The Dark

The start of the A Blade in the Dark mission in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The first step to recruiting Yagoro is to find him in northern Engyoji, north of Maniden Hall. At the mission’s start point, Naoe or Yasuke can find a body with a wound that looks like it’s from a hidden blade. Follow the tracks and you’ll eventually have to chase a “suspicious shinobi”, who turns out to be Yagoro.

Talk to him and you’ll eventually have to fight him and test his skills out. Yagoro fights like any of the other shinobi characters you’ve faced up to this point, which means that he’ll rely on tricks, ranged knife attacks, and quick slashes. He’s not a tough foe by any means, so take him down with either Yasuke or Naoe and just keep an eye on deflecting or blocking his attacks.

After you’ve done this, you’ll need to kill the lead samurai who Yagoro was after. He can be found in Jyujiin Courtyard close to where Yagoro is fought, where you’ll also find several other enemies. Although I’d argue this quest was clearly more meant for Naoe, Yasuke makes more sense for such a combat-heavy encounter, especially since most samurai can’t be stealth killed very easily.

The lead samurai won’t give you any trouble at all at this point in the game, and taking him out causes a cutscene to play with Yagoro. It’s here where the blade’s origin is revealed as a copy that Yagoro made himself. You’ll get a few dialogue options during this scene as well, but no matter what you choose, you’ll end up recruiting Yagoro to your cause.

What Can Yagoro Do?

Yagoro might have been recruited in the first quest to do with him, but that’s not where his questline ends. You can choose to do some more story missions linked to him if you like, starting out with Past and Present, which will show him growing in skill and becoming known in his hometown in Tamba.

Unlike some of the game’s other allies, Yagoro isn’t a romance option, so you’re going to have to just stick to being a mentor to him. He’s a handy ally to have, though, as his copied hidden blade makes him great for calling upon when you want to assassinate enemies who have fewer than three health chunks.
