How To Defeat Yetuga

The Yetuga grasping a soldier in its large hand before throwing them across the snow covered arena in The First Berserker: Khazan.

Despite being the first boss you encounter in The First Berserker: Khazan, the Yetuga has a surprising amount of moves at its disposal that will constantly keep you on your feet as you frantically look for an opening to attack. Fortunately, its moves are well-telegraphed, and there are some moves that leave them temporarily immobile, allowing you to swoop in for big damage!

Yetuga: Big Punch/Uppercut Combo

The first attack the Yetuga will likely perform is its Big Punch/Rising Uppercut combo, having it deliver a devastating punch with its left arm before swiftly following it up with an uppercut with its right arm. The first punch has a long wind-up, so it’s easy to see coming.

When you see the Yetuga cock its arm back, wait until the moment you see it begin moving forward, and then guard to land a perfect Reflection. Then, let go of the guard button and immediately press it again to get another perfect Reflection on its follow-up attack!

You can also just guard both of the attacks, but your Stamina Gauge will get tanked as they are massive attacks, so we don’t recommend it. It will be a bit hard to get down at first, but landing perfect Reflections on both of these attacks is the best way to deal with them!

Yetuga: Body Flop

The Yetuga flopping on top of Khazan with its entire body in The First Berserker: Khazan.

A common move of the Yetuga’s is its Body Flop, having it raise both its arms high above its head before walking forward briefly while falling forward in an attempt to crush you with its body. This move is highly telegraphed, so the moment you see it raise its arms, be prepared to deal with it.

You can either evade this move with a well-timed dodge, or you can land another Reflection. The moment you see the Yetuga begin falling forward, hit the guard button to land a perfect Reflection. Otherwise, you can evade behind it when it starts walking forward to avoid the move altogether!

Yetuga: Boulder Throw

The Yetuga tossing a boulder covered in ice at Khazan in The First Berserker: Khazan.

Frequently throughout your encounter, the Yetuga will punch its hand into the snow and pull out a large ice-covered boulder before hurling it at you with incredible speed and velocity, making it relatively tricky to try and evade, especially if you’re already low on Stamina.

However, you can also land a perfect Reflection on the boulder, and we prefer doing that rather than trying to time a well-timed dodge. When you see the Yetuga plunge its hand into the snow, stop moving and wait for it to pull the boulder out and begin throwing it. As soon as its arm moves forward, hit the guard button and land a Reflection to evade taking any damage to your HP or Stamina!

Yetuga: Alternating Punches

Another common action of the Yetuga is its Alternation Punches, having it launch a barrage of punches that alternate between its left and right fists. These punches are fast and devastating. There will be four punches total, with the last one being a sliding punch that will send it hurtling past you.

Whenever you see the Yetuga twist its body away from you, these punches are coming. As soon as you see it begin throwing its body back toward you with a deadly fist balled up, hit the guard button, release it, then hit it again, then do that once more to perfectly Reflection all three punches in rapid succession.

For the fourth punch, there will be a slight delay, so don’t guard immediately, as the Yetuga will perform a small charging punch. When it raises its arm, guard once more, landing another perfect Reflection, sending it flying past you, leaving it temporarily exhausted. During this state, you can land several uncontested hits on the Yetuga!

Yetuga: Leaping Superman Punch

Its Leaping Superman Punch is up next, having the Yetuga jump high into the air before crashing down with a powerful punch that will deal tons of damage if it connects. Fortunately, since it’s easily telegraphed, you can consistently evade the attack, leading to a massive reward.

Wait for the Yetuga to leap into the air and keep an eye out for when it begins to descend onto the ground with tremendous force. The moment you see it start hurtling downward, begin evading away from the blast radius, causing it to get its fist stuck in the snow. It will be stuck for a brief period, allowing you to land several attacks on it without any retaliation!

Yetuga: Leaping Grab

The Yetuga attempting to perform a leaping grab on Khazan in The First Berserker: Khazan.

Similar to the previous attack, the Yetuga also has a Leaping Grab attack, but it’s easy to tell them apart once you know what to look out for. Firstly, it won’t leap nearly as high this time around, making it a much quicker jump. There will also be speed lines that appear in the corner of your screen, which is the primary indicator that this attack is coming.

Once you see the Yetuga leap into the air, look for the speed lines to appear, then evade to the left or right to avoid the attack entirely. You cannot Reflect or guard against this action; if you attempt to do so, you will be grabbed, which leads to MASSIVE damage. Just evade it, reset your Stamina, and prepare for what’s next!

Yetuga: Chest Pounding Swipe

Many times throughout this bout, you will see the Yetuga violently pound on its chest. This may seem like there’s an opening, but there isn’t. There never is. Every time the Yetuga does this, it will instantly follow it up with a Swipe Attack, having it drag one of its arms across the ground, covering a broad range.

Do not approach the Yetuga when it’s pounding on its chest. Just keep your distance, wait for it to drag its arm across the ground, and wait for it to perform its next action. It’s not worth the risk!

Yetuga: Finally Staggered

Khazan attacking a staggered Yetuga after draining its Stamina Gauge in The First Berserker: Khazan.

Around this stage of the fight, the Yetuga will repeat the moves outlined above until you deplete its Stamina Gauge, temporarily staggering it, allowing you to unleash a barrage of attacks on it for big damage. So, after a few more perfect Reflections and attacks, you can unload on it and begin preparing for the next phase!

Yetuga – Phase Two: Charging Roar

During its ‘second phase,’ which typically occurs after you deplete its Stamina Meter for the first time, the Yetuga incorporates three new moves into its routine while repeating everything we covered above. One of these moves is its Charging Roar.

For this action, the Yetuga will stand in one spot and let out a loud and ferocious roar before charging forward with tremendous speed. As soon as you see it begin running toward you, evade to the left or right of it and have it run past you, ultimately having it run headfirst into the cliffside. The Yetuga will be temporarily stunned here, allowing you to unleash a few attacks on it!

Yetuga – Phase Two: Large Boulder Leap

Following that, another new action is its Large Boulder Leap, where the Yetuga will plunge both of its arms into the ground before picking up an enormous ice-covered boulder. After doing this, it will leap extremely high into the air before crashlanding with the boulder, exploding with a sizable area of effect.

Out of every move in its arsenal, this is the most annoying to deal with. As soon as it leaps into the air, you can either try sprinting to the other side of the arena in an attempt to avoid it altogether, or you can try landing a perfect Reflection. Both are very hard to do, but the Reflection is a tad more consistent!

You can also just guard through this entire move, but it will take a substantial toll on your Stamina Gauge, which could be worth it, depending on your situation. If you have enough Stamina to give, this may be the safest option this late in the encounter if you don’t want to risk dying from it!

Yetuga – Phase Two: Ice Breath Slam

Finally, its last attack is the Ice Breath Slam, which isn’t terrible to deal with. The Yetuga kicks off this action by drawing in the cold air around itself with a deep inhale. Then, it will violently send out a beam of ice, covering the arena with large chunks of ice.

While kind of daunting looking, you can evade through the ice beam with a well-timed dodge. After it draws in the cold air, wait for it to begin exhaling, then evade through the beam when it appears, placing you behind the Yetuga. Once you’re here, you can just start whaling on it, as its large slam will only affect the area in front of it.

Now, it’s just a matter of rinsing and repeating everything outlined above until you finally slay the Yetuga once and for all. It won’t take as long as you think once you get the Reflection windows down and get a feel for when you can attack and punish its moves!
