Mibuno Showdown in Assassin’s Creed Shadows starts after you get to play as Yasuke and annihilate a few of the enemies. That fight would again showcase Yasuke’s strength, but the playstyle will be quite different from Naoe’s. After defeating those enemies easily, you might not expect a pretty strong boss fight waiting for you.

Momochi Sandayu is a tough fight that can kill you pretty quickly if you are not careful. While you are playing as Yasuke, who is already pretty strong, you can’t underestimate Sandayu.
How To Defeat Momochi Sandayu
First Phase
Attack |
Description |
Smoke Bomb |
Sandayu would throw a smoke bomb to disappear into the smoke and throw two kunai at Yasuke. The kunai will be poisoned. You can either parry it or dodge it. |
Double Slash |
He will leap and slash Yasuke twice with the blade of his weapon. This attack can be parried, but the window is a little weird, so it is better to dodge it. |
Triple Slash |
Rarely, Sandayu would attack thrice with the blade of his weapon. All of the three attacks in the combo can be parried. |
Heavy Triple Strike |
He will use the chain part of his weapon to attack Yasuke three times. This can’t be parried; it can only be dodged. If you parry it, Yasuke will lose a chunk of his health. |
Heavy Single Strike |
Usually, after performing the normal triple slash, Sandayu can be seen performing a heavy attack that can’t be parried. This is a rare case, as it has happened only once when we were fighting him. |
Sandayu is one of the most troublesome opponents you can face in the early game. He uses a kusarigama that deals heavy damage and can also poison you. If you let him keep attacking you, the poison meter will fill up, and you will lose health over time.
You will have five heals, so make sure to utilize them correctly. In this game you can heal even in mid-combo.
You need to be most careful when he throws a smoke bomb. That would make tracking him a lot more difficult, and, taking advantage of that, he would throw poisoned projectiles at you. You will need to parry to avoid getting hit by those, and as the parry timing in this game isn’t brutal, you should have no trouble performing it properly.
If you are having trouble parrying the poisoned kunai Sandayu throws at you, try to dodge it. While Yasuke’s dodge is a little different from Naoe’s, it still gives you invincibility frames.
Fighting him at close range is also not easy. Most of the time, he will use attacks that can’t be parried, so if you are hit by them, it will take a chunk of your health. However, if you dodge those attacks, it will leave room for you to perform a combo.
Try to utilize Yasuke’s skills more often. His Iai Slash is pretty overpowering and gives you a massive opening to take a big chunk of your opponent’s health. His kick also leaves the opponent vulnerable to your next attack.
There is a pretty easy way to fight him if he is overpowering you. You will notice there are two skills on the bottom right that Yasuke can use. Hold RT and press Y/triangle on your controller to use the skill.
This will make Sandayu vulnerable, and you will be behind him. So, in this state, you will be able to perform two combos. However, don’t be too greedy, as he will recover pretty quickly.
Second Phase
Attack |
Description |
---|---|
Kick |
Sanyadu will kick Yasuke, which will leave him vulnerable. This attack cannot be parried. |
Tripe Kunai Throw |
In the second phase, he will do a front flip and attack with his blade. Following that, he would throw three poisoned kunai towards Yasuke. This attack can be dodged and parried. |
After you have depleted over half of his health, a cutscene will start, and Sandayu will perform an attack on Yasuke. You can’t dodge this as it is intended, but it won’t affect your health, so there is no need to worry.
Sometimes, Sandayu stops his initial attack chain and uses a different one, making it hard to dodge and predict him.
In the second phase, he seems to be a little more aggressive than usual and will use his kick a lot. The kick can’t be parried, so you must dodge it. If you get hit by his kick, it may leave Yasuke vulnerable to an upcoming attack.
The attack you need to be careful of in this phase is his tripe kunai throw. He will do a front flip, so when he does, instantly take a step back and get ready to parry. Once you are used to his rhythm, he will fall easily.
After you have defeated him, a series of cutscenes will start, and the quest will end.
