  • The MMO’s newest update includes new main story quests and raid challenges, along with new quality-of-life features.

During server maintenance, Final Fantasy 14 revealed the Job changes arriving in Patch 7.2, which primarily focused on streamlining area-of-effect damage across each role. However, Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.2 also significantly changed Black Mage’s playstyle to focus on faster spell casts, while the Pictomancer’s power during burst windows was nerfed.

Final Fantasy 14‘s Seekers of Eternity update will include new main story quests and raid challenges that will gradually launch over several weeks. Alongside the Job adjustments, Patch 7.2 included some quality-of-life changes that players can utilize freely. Final Fantasy 14 players can now mount while moving outside of combat, including in Frontline and Rival Wings PVP modes. Additionally, a new Jog feature will increase players’ movement speed in cities and hubs after Sprint expires, though the effect will go away after leaving a sanctuary. Housing items from the 2022 FF14 Furnishing Contest were also included in Patch 7.2.

Chrono Trigger Passes Impressive Sales Milestone

Classic Japanese RPG Chrono Trigger surpasses a major sales milestone 30 years after its original release on the Super Nintendo.

After pulling back the curtain on the 7.2 preliminary patch notes, Square Enix shared how Final Fantasy 14‘s Jobs should perform in Seekers of Eternity. Tank, Healer, and Physical Ranged DPS jobs saw the fewest updates in Patch 7.2, as area-of-effect (AoE) abilities were adjusted for Jobs such as Paladin, Machinist, Dancer, and Astrologian. While some AoE abilities were nerfed, others were buffed to compensate. White Mage, Scholar, and Sage saw slight potency buffs to their damage-over-time spells. The entire Melee DPS role saw buffs across the board, as jobs like Viper, Monk, and Ninja saw most of their rotation adjusted to make them stronger in raid content.

However, Pictomancer and Black Mage received the most attention in Final Fantasy 14‘s latest patch. Black Mage’s rotation was reworked to reduce the cast times of several spells, and its Astral Fire and Umbral Ice timers were removed. The Thunderhead and Firestarter procs no longer expire, and Leylines saw their duration reduced to 20 seconds, down from 30, to better line up with other cooldowns.

As for Pictomancer, Final Fantasy 14‘s newest caster DPS was nerfed by a few percent across the board. Spells like Pom Muse, Mog of the Ages, and Hammer Stamp had their power reduced, but rotational spell casts like Fire in Red and Thunder in Magenta were slightly buffed. As for Summoner and Red Mage, both remaining spell casters had slight damage increases to their core rotation to keep up with Black Mage and Pictomancer.

In PVP, all Jobs received animation speed adjustments, while some AoE abilities, like Holy Sheltron, Honing Dance, and Earth’s Reply had a slight range increase. It remains to be seen how Final Fantasy 14‘s latest Job changes will play out in Seekers of Eternity.

Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.2 Job Changes (March 24, 2025)

PVE

All Roles

  • We have made adjustments to a variety of actions after reviewing the offensive capabilities of melee and ranged DPS roles, as well as the balance within all roles.
  • Due to the unique nature of future battle design, we anticipate situations in which close-ranged attacks may be difficult to execute, so we have generally increased the attack potency of melee DPS roles.
  • In the wake of Patch 7.0, pictomancer’s offensive capabilities have been unexpectedly high, so we have increased the attack power of other jobs to achieve a better balance.
  • However, considering pictomancer’s strength even after these adjustments, and their continued efficiency in various duties, we have decided to temper pictomancer in Patch 7.2. We appreciate your understanding.
  • Finally, adjustments to the reduction of potency for multiple targets in certain area of effect actions were made mainly in order to achieve a better balance within Ultimate raids.

Tank

  • In order to gain a better balance between tank roles, action potency for warrior and gunbreaker has been increased.

Melee DPS

  • In light of future battle design, we have generally increased attack potency to maintain a good balance with ranged DPS roles.

Physical Ranged DPS

  • Future battle design will likely not affect physical ranged DPS very much, so we have not made many adjustments in this area.

Magical Ranged DPS

  • We anticipate that future battle design may cause difficulty with casting spells.
  • Keeping this in mind, we have increased attack potency of roles other than pictomancer to achieve a better balance between magical ranged DPS jobs.

Black Mage

  • Future battle design may cause difficulty with casting spells, so we have shortened the cast time for a variety of actions.
  • Furthermore, the effect expiration of Astral Fire and Umbral Ice has been largely detrimental to attack power in situations where players must interrupt casting to address battle mechanics.
  • For this reason, these statuses will no longer expire.
  • In Patch 7.1, Ley Lines became a charge-based action, which has resulted in movement restriction lasting longer than intended, so we have reduced its duration.
  • In light of all these changes, we have generally amplified black mage’s firepower by increasing attack potency and adjusting the trait Enochian.

Pictomancer

  • Due to pictomancer’s high damage over time, area of effect damage, and burst damage, as well as their performance even when unable to attack, this job boasts exceptional offensive capability.
  • However, in light of future battle design and the enhancement of other jobs, we have deemed it necessary to reduce their offensive abilities.
  • Art rendering actions like Pom Muse, in particular, have a great influence on battle, so we have reduced their potency.
  • In exchange, we have increased the potency for magic attacks like Fire in Red to hopefully achieve a better balance among pictomancer’s actions.

Healer

  • Attack potency for white mage, scholar, and sage has been increased to achieve a better balance within the healer role.

PVP

All Jobs

  • We have improved playability by adjusting the timing of effect activation for a large number of actions, as well as expanding the area of effect of certain attacks centered around the player.
  • As these changes are likely to affect job balance, we have restricted the number of bespoke action adjustments in this update.
  • Furthermore, we have improved movement actions in large-scale PvP campaigns like Frontline and Rival Wings by allowing players to target not only members of their own party, but those of their alliance as well.

Machinist

  • We increased the potency of machinist’s iconic limit break, Marksman’s Spite, as its KO potential was hampered in the wake of Patch 7.1 adjustments and the increase of all jobs’ HP.

Summoner

  • In order to help emphasize summoner’s strength, we have reduced the attack delay for Demi-Bahamut and Demi-Phoenix, as well as increased the number of times they may attack.

Astrologian

  • Compared to other healers, astrologian enjoys formidable self-defense, so in order to achieve a better balance, we increased the recast timer of Epicycle, a particularly influential action.

Sage

  • Within the healer role, sage is currently experiencing lower win rates across all tiers, so we have reduced the recast timers for some crucial actions.
