- Viewers eagerly await premiere on May 4, 2025 on AMC and AMC+.
Throughout its time on AMC, The Walking Dead has had its fair share of terrible ideas over the years, but in its spin-off series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, zombie-loving fans think that if one controversial romance does happen in season 2, that it might be the franchise’s worst decision yet. For viewers who have been missing the bloodcurdling zombie action from its stars, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, TWD: Dead City will make its way back to AMC in only a couple of months.
In the show’s most recent season 2 trailer, Negan and Maggie have teamed up to not only take on zombie hordes but also to gain control of the overrun city, as the clip showcases sweeping shots accompanied by Rosemary Clooney’s song, Manhattan. The trailer from last year showcased Negan returning to his old ways as he could be seen whistling that creepy tune as well as being reunited with his bat, Lucille. For those who have missed The Walking Dead spin-off and still need to catch up on season one, Dead City tells the story of Maggie and Negan, who head to Manhattan together to rescue Maggie’s son, Hershel, from The Croat. In season one, viewers saw Negan being hunted by a lawman called Armstrong, as well as encountering a group of savage survivors called The Burazi. Now, as the heat builds up for the show’s return, fans discuss what could be in store for the pair on a more intimate level.

The Walking Dead Fans Really Hope Romance Isn’t on the Cards for Maggie and Negan
Over on Reddit, Walking Dead fans have been theorizing about what Season 2 of Dead City could hold for the show’s characters, Maggie and Negan. Given their long and turbulent history in AMC’s The Walking Dead, especially since Negan beat her husband Glenn to death with his bat, it had seemed very likely that the pair would remain enemies for life. However, in Dead City, Maggie and Negan are forced to work together and somewhat put their animosity on pause. In light of their dramatic “frenemy” status, fans now believe that the couple could end up igniting some kind of romance in Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City.
“I fear a Negan and Maggie romance is on the horizon,” exclaimed one worried fan of TWD: Dead City in a post. Although they give no real reason why they believe this, it likely boils down to the tension the pair give off while in each other’s company and how the enemies-to-lovers trope can be such a massive subject in pop culture. As much as The Walking Dead universe could certainly use some “make love, not war” influence nowadays, it seems very unlikely that the show’s creators would dare to go down this route given how controversial many of the franchise’s storylines have been in the past. “I think they will and that would be the top 10 dumbest things to ever happen,” said one fan, while another was disgusted at the prospect, “What a sick, demented show that would be. Is there nothing else they can create?”.
While fans will have to wait and see how Negan and Maggie’s “relationship” will pan out when the show returns in Season 2, the good news is that they don’t have long to wait as Dead City will air on May 4, 2025, via AMC and AMC+.
