Cocytus Lucifer Boss Guide – 33 Immortals

Coctyus is the Ascension boss on the first map of 33 Immortals, Inferno. This three-headed skeletal monster has multiple phases, including some wipe mechanics that can’t be dodged by any player. Defeating the boss takes teamwork and communication, even if the only way to properly get the message across is to spam your emotes.

Here’s a beginner’s guide to 33 Immortals, with plenty of tips and tricks on how to beat the first level in the game.

This guide will cover Coctyus’ mechanics, including how to dodge its wipe mechanics and prevent your brave group of Immortals from dying at the last moment. The boss gets easier if you’ve got a lot of players still alive, and success depends on how many perks you earned from Ascension Battles.

Cocytus Boss Guide

The battle begins once players have completed an Ascension Battle. All players will then be teleported to the boss arena, and, after a short cutscene, the battle will begin.

You should make your way to Lucifer’s chest and immediately start attacking, as shown in the image above.

Cocytus will occasionally slam the ground with both arms and the area that is affected is telegraphed by a red triangular shape. This can be dashed out of or blocked if you are using the Sword.

Attack Phases And Mechanics

During the fight, Cocytus has several phases. These appear in no set order, but each one is quite clearly represented by Lucifer during the fight.

During one of the phases, Lucifer will spawn three blue-colored monsters that must be defeated before the bar underneath the health bar fills up. If you are unable to defeat the monsters in time, Lucifer will deal massive AoE damage that can’t be blocked.

Players should save their co-op abilities to kill these monsters as quickly as possible.

During the fight, Lucifer will raise his arms and then spawn two glowing cuffs on each wrist. Like the monsters before, these need to be destroyed before the bar at the top of the screen fills up.

Focus on the left wrist first (we don’t know why but this is the done thing), and then destroy the second if you’re able to. Even destroying a single cuff will reduce the incoming AoE damage and give you a place to avoid the damage.

Lucifer will spawn several icicles across the arena that need to be destroyed before the bar at the top of the screen fills up. Focus your co-op powers and group together to stack co-op strikes for extra damage.

Use your emote wheel to help other players go in the right direction.

If you’re unable to destroy the icicles, Lucifer will deal massive AoE damage that is essentially a team-wipe unless you have players with substantial shield sizes.

Periodically throughout the fight – usually when Lucifer’s health bar is low – players will be singled out with an orb. Stack on top of the player.
