Agatha All Along was a massive success at a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe really needed a win, bringing up the rear in a year when only one other project hit Disney+. With Echo failing to make a positive impression on fans at the top end, Agatha and her coven were the highlights of the year on the streamer for the MCU. The show worked hand in hand with Deadpool & Wolverine to repair some of the loss of fan goodwill that the franchise suffered in 2023, delivering a surprisingly compelling adventure in the process. While the finale tied things up pretty well, fans certainly weren’t willing to let it go, and the Disney+ show even teased a second season.

With so many fan theories around the show, some were bound to hit home or strike a chord with the show’s cast and crew, who could scarcely avoid seeing it all online. Per Variety, showrunner Jac Schaeffer was on hand at the Agatha All Along panel at the recent PaleyFest event, and she weighed in on which fan theory was her favorite. “People thought Rio was Nicholas’ mom,” she said, referring to Aubrey Plaza’s deceptively powerful character and her romantic link to Agatha. “When we were developing it, we got a lot of questions. ‘Who’s the dad?’ We were like, ‘Why do you wanna know?‘” Schaeffer added. “It was something that was important to the writers, and that was important to me. It was really lovely, that was something the fans said that we could confirm.” This was easily the show’s most prominent fan theory and discussion, making it a real treat that Schaeffer and the creative team for Agatha All Along have now given it the official seal of approval.
The showrunner also responded to a cast member’s appeal to the franchise during the panel. While most fans would agree that Agatha All Along season two would be totally unnecessary, that doesn’t mean that they don’t want to see the characters from that series return. One character that certainly deserved a second chance in the MCU is Debra Jo Rupp’s Sharon Davis, who was killed off in the show’s third episode. Rupp certainly wants her back, hoping “She comes back in a field or something, right? This is Marvel!” On this potential return, Schaeffer left things vague, teasing that “In this corner of the MCU, things are nonlinear.” While this doesn’t confirm a return for Sharon, it could hint at a return to Agatha’s world that would bring Rupp’s character alongside other more powerful players.
Since Hahn maintains that Agatha won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday, then the best bet for everyone’s favorite witch to return (and Sharon, too) will likely be in one of the potential Agatha All Along spinoffs, centered around Death or Wiccan. The magical corner of the MCU that the show properly explored for the first time could be essential going forward into an overarching story that sets the universe’s heroes against Doctor Doom. With that character’s well-known mastery over both tech and the mystic arts, there’s little doubt that there’ll be a place for these characters on the main stage of the MCU soon enough.
