Ever since the launch of Helldivers 2 in early 2024, Arrowhead Game Studios has done a great job ensuring that the game always has something new for players to experience. There have been a few hiccups along the way, namely the PSN requirement controversy, but the game is largely an example of live service done right. What stands out about the game is how individual developers communicate with the community, with the Arrowhead Game Studios CEO even active in the Helldivers 2 Discord to answer fan questions. Just recently, he revealed he wanted one major change to Helldivers 2‘s armor system.

In an interaction in the Helldivers 2 Discord server, one fan asked Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani about “the reservation behind not providing any sense of roadmap, key feature milestones, etc.” Jorjani’s response was interesting, noting a “lack of initiative on our part and that we aren’t reliable enough in planning to be able to do that.” He also said that “the game is in flux and we like not knowing what will happen next.” By the sounds of it, fans wanting a Helldivers 2 content roadmap won’t be getting one any time soon, given it seems to be at odds with the way the studio develops content.

There are some clear positives to this type of development. A lack of a roadmap doesn’t tie the studio down to any particular kind of content, allowing it to produce unique Helldivers 2 updates on a regular basis. However, the nature of this fast-and-free approach means that any bigger overhauls are more challenging to pull off, as they would require more planning from the developer. Still, if Arrowhead Game Studios wanted to produce an extensive Helldivers 2 overhaul in the future, it’s always possible that it could change its approach to a roadmap further down the line. In late 2024, it was revealed that Arrowhead Game Studios slowly plans to transform Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3 over time with new content, in what could prove to be an innovative approach for live service titles. With this plan in motion, players can expect tons of content for the game throughout 2025 and beyond.
