The Best Rushdown Characters In Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6 is notorious for being one of the most offense-heavy modern fighting games. While the main culprit behind all the offense is throw looping, there are still characters who can rush you down with drive rushes, level two supers, or other moves. Even in a game that focuses on offense, not all characters are built to rush you down.

Which Street Fighter 6 should you choose based on your playstyle?

At its core, rushdown means unrelenting pressure that feels almost impossible to escape. Whether this is achieved by plus on block normals, or spacing traps, rushdown characters will get their win condition by putting you in a blockstring.

Kimberly

Flashy New Addition To Street Fighter

Kimberly is a completely new character to the Street Fighter series, offering a vibrantly aggressive play style. She uses her can stocks to run set-plays and has a command run that follows up with more moves. She can use these tools together to rush you down like no other.

Unfortunately, she does not have a true reversal DP. This often makes her prone to aerial attacks. However, once her offense starts, she more than makes up for it. She also has a relatively fast drive rush that is difficult to check.

DJ

Drive Rushing Monster

DJ most likely has the fastest drive rush in Street Fighter 6. Even the world’s best players struggle to check his drive rush. On top of that, he has a sway that creates the perfect spacing traps, leading to massive damage. Because of this, most players fighting DJ become too scared to press any buttons, and DJ gets to run them down.

If you’ve played ranked in Street Fighter 6, you’ve likely run into a DJ player that only does drive rush, and it works. If players can get away with just drive rush, imagine the rushdown of an optimized DJ player who can use his entire toolkit.

Rashid

King Of The Wind

Rashid relies on high-low mix-ups and safe jumps to open you up. However, the core of Rashid’s rushdown is his level two, called the Ysaar. He has, hands down, the best level two in Street Fighter 6. It’s a massive tornado that appears on the screen and slowly moves forward. Once activated, the tornado forces you into the corner of the screen, where Rashid gets to put you into a guessing situation.

There is also little to no risk in raw activating level two, as only a few characters can punish it with the meter. If Rashid has three bars, he will likely get to activate level two twice and put you into a checkmate situation. The only way to avoid this is by not letting Rashid get any hits.

Aki

Unhinged Poison Queen

Aki has slow-traveling fireballs that will poison the character that gets hit by them. The poison slowly drains the character’s health bar until Aki takes damage. She can also drive rush behind the fireball because of its slow travel speed, allowing for an aggressive approach in neutral.

While Aki might not look like a typical rushdown character because of these tools, she gets infinite blockstrings in burnout. Her specials and normals let her create infinite loops that slowly chip away at your health bar. You either lose the round due to chip damage or get hit by a drive impact because Aki drove you to the corner.

4

Blanka

Every Player’s Nightmare

Blanka is a chaotic character that has unorthodox normals and specials. The crux of Blanka’s rushdown relies on his level two and doll setups. Once activated, rolling attack and electric thunder get buffed, allowing Blanka to get free plus frames and even left-right mix-ups. Blanka’s doll setups also allow him to combo after a normal throw or set up side switches with his hop.

Outfit 3 has finally been released for the base roster of Street Fighter 6. But who has the best new threads? This list seeks to answer that question.

Despite all this, Blanka still has a frame one anti-air reversal. Although his reversal requires a charge input, the OD version is still amazing at shutting down the offense while allowing Blanka to continue his own. Blanka is especially a nightmare if you don’t know the match-up, as he can then abuse all sorts of gimmicks.

3

Juri

Taekwondo Fighter With Infinite Plus Frames

Juri is your very typical rushdown character with a fast drive rush and plus-on-block normals. However, what sets her apart from the rest of the cast is her unique level two. Juri gets a reverse beat as soon as she activates level two. This means that any normal can string into any other normal, allowing her to break the rules of the game.

The only potential downside to her level two is that it’s very hard to master. Certainly not something that any beginner can do. However, Juri gets to rush her opponents down even without level two, thanks to her fast drive rush and frame data.

2

Ken

The Best Shoto In Street Fighter 6

Ken gets some of the best rushdown with built-in high-low mix-ups, thanks to Jinrai. It’s a special with either a high or low follow-up. Since you can link it from normals, Jinrai is also good at chipping away at the opponent’s drive gauge. Of course, Ken also has dragon lash that instantly closes the distance between him and his opponent. On top of all that, he has the hardest drive rush to check in the game.

Combining all of these tools, you get the absolute pinnacle of rushdown characters. He can drive rush and get a blockstring started with little risk, then keep chipping away at the drive gauge until burnout. Once bit’s urnt, it’s only a matter of Jinrai loops getting a few hits.

1

Cammy

A Character You Can’t Anti-Air

Cammy’s game plan in neutral is more focused on footsies and aerial approach with her fast dive kick. But once she gets a blockstring going, it’s nearly impossible to escape. Her combos also do some of the best corner carry, meaning you will most likely end up in the corner with any hit.

Cammy gets all of her rushdown because of one single move: her dive kick. Unless you’re playing with modern controls, you will not be able to anti-air the dive kick consistently. If you can’t anti-air, Cammy gets to jump for free, which means free mix-ups and blockstrings. She also gets to reset her pressure even if she’s negative on the block.
