Since its 2000 release, Majora’s Mask has become a cult classic among Nintendo fans. Set in the bizarre land of Termina, Link has just three days to avert a crisis caused by the Skull Kid, who the titular Majora’s Mask had possessed. The calamity was spearheaded by Termina’s unsettling Moon crashing onto the land, with its eerie face and sharp eyes gazing down on its imminent point of impact. An upcoming game set for release in 2025 features gameplay and art style elements reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Given that Majora’s Mask is one of the more iconic Nintendo-developed sequels to date, a fan artist shone a spotlight on Termina’s unmistakable and unsettling Moon. On the r/gaming subreddit, a Redditor named SculptedNostalgia crafted the Moon from Majora’s Mask out of clay. SculptedNostalgia stated that a Styrofoam ball was the base of the Moon’s body, with gray-colored clay layered for most of the process. The Moon was attached to a pole for a picture taken on a black background.

White and pink clay were used to sculpt the Moon’s ghastly teeth and gums. The Moon’s nose and eyes were prominently featured in a screenshot taken by SculptedNostalgia, who also added LED lights to the Moon’s yellow eyes. SculptedNostalgia used some circuitry to power the LED eyes, which were out of view of the picture they took of their Moon sculpture.
Though other Legend of Zelda fan artists have crafted various masks that Link wore during his adventures in Majora’s Mask, the Moon remains a rare subject for fan artists to replicate. In response, Zelda fans said the clay-sculpted Moon by SculptedNostalgia was accurate and nightmarish, with some claiming it looked similar to a computer-generated render used in the games.
Between fan art projects and accomplishing in-game feats thought impossible, Majora’s Mask is still a prominent Zelda entry 25 years after its launch. With the Nintendo Switch 2 launching later in 2025, only time will tell what adventures await Zelda fans.
