How to Retire in The Sims 4
Careers are full-time and part-time jobs for professional companies. Teens can work part-time, while Young Adults, Adults, and Elder Sims can work full or part-time. As Sims work in a career, they will get promotions as long as they complete their job duties and increase their skills.
Elder Sims may have a more challenging time working full-time because some of their needs deplete faster. Additionally, as the final life stage, their days are numbered, so players must make the most out of the time left in the world of living. Luckily, Elder Sims can officially retire in The Sims 4 and earn money without going to work.
Elders can only earn retirement if they work full-time. Sims with part-time jobs and those who earn money by writing, painting, or owning a business don’t qualify for retirement funds.
Elder Sims, without retirement, can make passive funds without working day jobs by publishing books or licensing songs.
Players can follow the below instructions to retire:
- As an Elder Sim with a full-time job, use a cellphone and click on the Job app. It looks like a suitcase.
- Select the “Retire” option.
- Confirm the Sim’s retirement.
Their pension will be half their working salary, so Sims who retire at higher career levels will earn more retirement money. Elder Sims aren’t required to retire, but they will lose their pension if they start working again. If they return to their previous job, they can begin at a higher level depending on their position when they quit.
Retired Sims will receive their pension payments daily at 7 AM. Elder Sims can use their free time to babysit their grandkids, go on vacations, pick up a hobby, or run a home business.
If players want a few extra days with their Elder Sims, they can spend their Sim’s satisfaction points to purchase a Potion of Youth to reset their current age cycle.
How to Retire at Any Age Using Cheats
Typically, Elder Sims are the only ones who can retire, but there’s a way around this using cheats. Players can activate cheats by opening the cheat console. To open the cheat console, do the following:
- CTRL/SHIFT/C (PC)
- COMMAND/SHIFT/C (Mac)
- Hold all four bumpers (Console)
Type in “testingcheats true” to activate cheats. Then, select a Young Adult or Adult Sim to retire and enter “careers.retire [Career Name]” An example of this is “careers.retire Athlete” If the cheat is successful, the selected Sim will start receiving a daily pension payment.
