33 Immortals is an intense co-op action roguelike where you and 32 other Rebel Souls fight your way through the Beyond in order to challenge mythical monsters and immortal beings. The journey is inspired by The Divine Comedy, starting in Inferno, but the second and third regions, namely Purgatorio and Paradiso, are locked behind special keys.
Purgatorio is the second biome in the game, and you’ll need a Purgatorio Key to access it. You won’t find it in any NPC shops in Dark Woods, and it doesn’t drop from regular mobs or elites in the Beyond. How to Get Purgatorio Keys in 33 Immortals
Unlike Paragons or other resources in 33 Immortals, Purgatorio Keys don’t drop from elites or Torture Chambers. Instead, you’ll need to challenge Lucifer, the main boss of the Inferno biome, to grab this special key.
To challenge Lucifer, you’ll first have to complete Torture Chambers as they open on the map. Once enough have been cleared by the players, Ascension Battles unlock. These special encounters require you to reach one of the three Ascension Battle arenas on the map and survive waves of monsters. After defeating all the mobs and elites, you’ll have the option to ascend. Hold E (A on the controller) to Ascend, where you and other survivors can finally challenge Lucifer.
Lucifer is no easy fight either. With a massive 10-bar health pool, you and your allies will need to work together to chip away at his health one bar at a time. Thankfully, you don’t have to defeat him to earn a Purgatorio Key. As long as you manage to drop his health from 10 bars to 7, you’ll earn yourself a Purgatorio Key, which you can use to enter Purgatorio from the Dark Woods in 33 Immortals.
Taking down Lucifer’s health bars rewards one or two Eternal Shards at a time. You’ll receive a guaranteed Purgatorio Key when his health reaches 7 and 4 bars. Additionally, defeating Lucifer drops a Legendary Chest, which contains another free Purgatorio Key.
How Do Purgatorio Keys in 33 Immortals Work?
Purgatorio Keys are essential for progression, allowing you to access new challenges beyond Inferno. Early on, grabbing Purgatorio Keys might feel tough because of the game’s difficulty. But as you build up your Feat Level in 33 Imortals and sharpen your skills, taking on Lucifer will become much more manageable.
Purgatorio Keys are one-time-use items, meaning that each time you enter Purgatorio, you’ll consume a key. Since Purgatorio is far more challenging than Inferno, it’s best to wait until you’ve mastered the game’s basics before heading in.
