How to Unlock the Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge in Phasmophobia
The Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge was first added to Phasmophobia as part of the Crimson Eye update released in October 2024, and it has since become a permanent addition to the game.
There is no specific requirement to unlock this particular challenge, which can be viewed anytime on the Event Board in the game’s main lobby area. However, if you’re a new player, then you will need to level up your character until you permanently unlock the Sunny Meadows map location at Level 17. Once maps are unlocked for the first time, they will always be available for investigations, even if and when you prestige your character.
How to Beat the Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge in Phasmophobia
As its name suggests, the Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge is one that must be completed at the Sunny Meadows map location. One of the two largest maps in the game, Sunny Meadows is a dreary asylum that features two expansive, winding floors with nearly 70 rooms total.
There’s a ‘Sunny Meadows Restricted’ version of the same map that’s significantly scaled down in size, but it does not qualify for this challenge.
To conquer the Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge, you must complete a total of 50 investigations at said location. The only qualifying objective you must complete for each investigation is to correctly identify the ghost before leaving or dying. Other features such as optional objectives and photos are not required. Once you conclude the last required investigation, you will receive a pop-up notification on the results page for that investigation, indicating your new rewards for the challenge.
You can track your progress with the challenge at the Event Board found in the game’s main lobby, near the van docking area. As you complete investigations for it, the gauge bar on the Sunny Meadows Survival pamphlet will fill. You can track your progress on other permanent challenges as well, such as the Ranger Challenge.
Tips for Beating Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge
The notion of doing 50 investigations on a map like Sunny Meadows can definitely seem incredibly daunting and terrifying. The building’s layout seems relatively simple, but the incredibly long hallways with poor lighting and countless obstacles in the way can make it feel that much more unsettling.
However, there are a few different tactics you can employ to make the experience more manageable, even on a map of this size. First, having a loadout of at least Tier 2 and Tier 3 equipment is highly recommended. If your upgrades are not quite there, consider focusing on earning more of them before taking on this challenge. The better equipped you are with the best means of evidence gathering and protection against ghost hunts, the easier the investigations will be overall.

Next, the difficulty you complete these investigations on doesn’t matter. This means that you can adjust your difficulty setting all the way down to ‘Amateur,’ which makes the conditions for your investigations more flexible and less dangerous. You’ll get more setup time before the ghost can hunt, which is essential on such a large map. Furthermore, the ghost will be less aggressive and won’t be able to change its favorite room. On top of that, sanity will drain less quickly, and medication will restore more sanity overall.
In terms of how to approach the map itself and conduct your investigations, there are different methods you can try. One is to take and place all four Sound Sensors in each “wing” of the map (east and west), on both floors, then return to the van and listen closely while preserving your sanity.
This allows you to use sound to track the ghost’s behavior, such as thrown objects or opened doors, and narrow down its possible location more quickly. The one caveat to this is that Sunny Meadows features quite a bit of ambient noise, and you will need to know how to decipher what’s ambient and what’s caused by the ghost.
Another way to employ sound as a tracking method is to use the upgraded Parabolic Microphone, which you can carry with you and check for ghost activity as you navigate the map. Whichever strategy you use, once you’ve figured out the ghost’s location, prioritize placing Crucifixes first before the rest of your equipment, as a means of protection.
Completing this challenge with friends can also make things much easier, as you can ferry in equipment more quickly, and more eyes on the ghost can help you figure out its identity faster as well.
Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge Rewards in Phasmophobia
Upon completing all of the investigations for the Sunny Meadows Survival Challenge, you’ll automatically receive a unique badge and ID background for your character profile. The motif features a bloodied asylum wall, while the badge contains a red handprint. The special title for this reward is ‘Inmate,’ which you can see at the top of the card.
You can change your ID’s look while in the game’s main lobby by selecting the edit button in the top right corner.
