A reliable Valve insider has claimed that Half-Life 3 (which is currently still codenamed HLX) won’t end on a cliffhanger and will be the “end of Gordon’s adventure”.
For more than a decade now, Half-Life fans have waited more patiently than any other gaming community for the long-awaited third mainline game in the series. As Valve released fewer and fewer games over the last few years, Half-Life 3 has seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream, and something that turned into more of a depressing bit of hopium than anything else.

I doubt you’ll need an RTX 50 series to wail on headcrabs.
That’s all started to change over the past year or so thanks to a Valve game that’s codenamed HLX and has been datamined to the high heavens. We’ve learned a lot about what everyone presumes is Half-Life 3 is going to be like, and there are some insiders who seem to know a lot about the still-unannounced project.
Half-Life 3 Reportedly Won’t End On A Cliffhanger
One such insider is Gabe Follower, who has been very on top of Half-Life 3 leaks and news over the past few years, including sharing details about the ongoing playtests. As shared by Redditor QuantumProtector on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, Gabe Followers’ latest video reveals a very interesting point about Half-Life 3.
During the video Gabe Follower confidently claims that Half-Life 3 will “be the end of Gordon’s adventure” and won’t have a cliffhanger like in most of the previous games. They note that the universe could be continued through spin-offs or side stories, but that the “story arc of the main characters” will end in the game’s finale.
I understand that this may upset some people, and I don’t really like it, but Half-Life 3 will be the end of Gordon’s adventure. Maybe we will some spin-offs in the Half-Life universe in the future, but the story arc of the main characters will end in the finale of the game. – Gabe Follower
Gabe Follower goes as far as saying that many developers see Half-Life 3 as a “farewell gift to the community”, before pointing out that others might have heard the same details they have and could even leak or spoil it. Considering how much of Half-Life 3 has already been shared without it even being shown, that does seem like a distinct possibility.
As is the case with all HLX/ Half-Life 3 leaks and rumours, it’s worth taking them with a big grain of salt until Valve officially announces the game. While it’s true that we’re hearing more and more about it and that it’s been teased far more this year than ever, let’s not all get our hopes up too much.
