Summary
- Will: Follow The Light is an upcoming indie title from TomorrowHead Studio that resembles Dredge in various ways.
- The game revolves around a lighthouse keeper on a quest to find his missing son, and promises an engaging mix of story-driven adventure and interesting gameplay mechanics.
- While similar to Dredge in atmosphere and setting, Will: Follow The Light distinguishes itself with an immersive first-person perspective and more realistic visuals.
2023’s Dredge from developer Black Salt Games was an indie release that was half cozy management and half Lovecraftian horror. The studio’s first outing saw players in the role of a down-on-his-luck fisherman taking odd jobs from eccentric citizens and sailing the icy seas of a mysterious and isolated coastal archipelago. Along with its captivating visual style, Dredge married the two genres into a deeply engaging experience. It went on to sell one million copies by the end of that year, becoming a bona fide hit, and leaving many fans hoping for more in the same vein.
Now it appears that this might soon be the case. TomorrowHead Studio announced its own upcoming debut game, Will: Follow The Light, in August 2024. The title just recently received a new gameplay trailer, showing off more of what players can expect from it. And based on everything revealed about it, those who enjoyed Dredge should be keeping a close watch on Will: Follow The Light, as it promises to provide a compelling experience with much of the same flavor.
Though it does not have a set date yet, Will: Follow The Light is scheduled to release on PC sometime this year.

Why Dredge Fans Should Keep an Eye on Will: Follow The Light
Everything Revealed About Will: Follow The Light, So Far
TomorrowHead describes Will: Follow The Light as a “story-driven adventure puzzle game about a perilous personal journey through the harsh northern latitudes.” Further detailing this, the title’s Steam page outlines that:
Players will take on the role of Will, a lighthouse keeper on a remote island in the northern seas. During one of your typically solitary shifts, an unexpected radio message shatters the routine. A sudden disaster has struck your hometown, and your only son is missing. Determined to find him, you must set out on a quest aboard your yacht, Molly, navigating the treacherous northern seas. The harder you search for your son, the more questions arise. What hidden truths lie in your bond with your own father? Where is your beloved wife? What has happened to your family? Through the journey, you discover and confront truths about yourself, whether you’re ready for them or not.
It makes for an intriguing setup that has more than some passing similarities to Dredge, and could be the next game to scratch the itch for those seeking a new title like it.
Will: Follow The Light Looks to Be in the Same Boat as Dredge
Will: Follow The Light‘s narrative framework of a mystery surrounding a missing family, along with its northern sea setting and other overall vibes, make it seem closely aligned with Dredge‘s. It also appears to have some mechanics that Dredge fans will likely find familiar and welcome. There looks to be an extensive upgrade system and related mechanics for the titular protagonist’s yacht, implying fans will need to regularly ensure it’s up to snuff to survive on the seas and continue their search.
Although Will: Follow The Light shares many elements with Dredge, one key difference is that it will be in first-person instead of having players controlling a vessel in third-person and interacting mainly through menus. This aspect lends it a bit more of an immersion factor, and the studio itself is composed of members with “a strong background in CGI eager to deliver realistic visuals and unique adventures.” Will: Follow The Light is poised to serve up an impressive-looking world while having a heavy emphasis on naval aspects within an emotionally-driven story, and is thus a game that should be on fans of Dredge‘s radar.
