Game Rant chats with Rockfish Games’ Michael Schade about how the team transitioned the Everspace series from roguelike to open world looter shooter.
Rockfish Games recently announced another Everspace 2 DLC pack in the form of Wrath of the Ancients. Following up on that reveal, the developer has now shared a video overview of the upcoming expansion that focuses on the Wraith, a new Everspace 2 ship that’s planned to debut as part of Wrath of the Ancients. Since it’s a unique spacecraft, the Wraith won’t be available for purchase from ship dealers, but will only be obtainable from one specific location in the expansion. Design-wise, the Wraith is a medium/heavy Okkar fighter that wouldn’t look out of place in any fleet operated by the reptilian race.
New Everspace 2 Ship Will Have a Semi-Corporeal State
The coloring of the ship will be customizable using highlights, and the spacecraft will also be compatible with the cybernetic glow option from the Everspace 2 Supporter Pack. However, modifying its shape via modules won’t be an option, on account of the Wraith being a unique vessel. Likewise, the ship’s passives will be predetermined rather than dependent on RNG rolls. The Everspace 2 weapons attached to the Wraith—as well as the vessel’s overall stats—make it suitable for high-risk, high-reward type of combat, Rockfish Games said. When things get messy, the Wraith can activate its Spectral Form, which transforms it into a semi-corporeal state and makes its hull decay while simultaneously increasing its damage and replacing its devices with new special abilities. Once the hull drops to zero, the mode ends and the ship’s health is restored in full.
The Wrath of the Ancients DLC will be accompanied by an update that will add one more hangar slot to the base game, on top of introducing a variety of bug fixes. The expansion will also feature a new storyline, mobs, bosses, and Okkar equipment. Four new star systems will be part of the package as well, together with more crafting blueprints and an expanded soundtrack.
Wrath of the Ancients is currently planned for release sometime in spring 2025. It’s currently unclear whether this will be the final Everspace 2 expansion. If the Titans DLC is any indication, Wrath of the Ancients will be priced at around $14.99.
