Assassin’s Creed Shadows Overtakes Origins, Odyssey’s Concurrent Player Records

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched earlier this week, and judging from the earlier stats we have on hand, it’s a huge success. It surpassed two million players in just two days, enough for it to outperform the launches of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey. It also topped the Steam best-seller charts, suggesting that this is going to be the hit that Ubisoft desperately needs.

Now, we have another indication that Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ launch is going strong. As noted by ResetEra user Smitch, Shadows now has the highest concurrent player record of any Assassin’s Creed game on Steam. It broke the record just hours ago, and it’s come close to pushing the figure even higher, as it seems that Shadows is enjoying a huge launch weekend.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Keeps Breaking Records

The concurrent player record is now almost 65,000

According to SteamDB, Shadows’ concurrent player record is 64,825, which means there were almost 65,000 people playing on Steam alone at the same time earlier today. This doesn’t account for other launchers, platforms, and those playing through Ubisoft+, so the real concurrent player figure will be even higher.

Before this, Odyssey had the concurrent player record on Steam, with 62,069 people playing at once back in 2017. Then, Origins sits behind at 41,551, Black Flag with 16,049, Valhalla with 15,679, and Assasin’s Creed 3 with 15,007.

Shadows’ success comes at a difficult time for Ubisoft. Year-on-year revenue was down by 31 percent in its latest financial report, after Star Wars Outlaws underperformed, and Shadows was repeatedly delayed. It remains to be seen if Shadows is enough to make up for all of this.
