All Giant Characters In DragonBall Z: Sparking! Zero, Ranked

The inclusion of Giant characters has always been a prominent feature in most Dragon Ball games and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is no exception. These come from all sorts of both old and new Dragon Ball media and, regardless of their canon status to the franchise, fans have showered them with a lot of love.

The Hero of Justice character pack brought 11 new characters (counting transformations) to Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Here are all of them, ranked.

At first, Sparking Zero’s Giant characters may seem slow to play as, however, they can prove to be quite useful. Due to their unaffected nature to most melee attacks from regular-sized characters, they have found a special place in many online matches.

9

Lord Slug (Giant Form)

“You Have No Idea What I Am Capable Of”Lord Slug (Giant Form) at Cell Games Arena in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

The Namekian antagonist, Lord Slug, was one of the few of his kind to showcase the power to transform into a Giant. While he posed as quite a threat to the Z warriors in the 1991 film, he ends up feeling very weak in Sparking Zero.

Lord Slug’s Giant form doesn’t offer any useful skills or unique Super Attacks to the player. The only effective tool at his disposal ends up being the Super Explosive Wave, which guarantees some impact and can do a whole bar of damage.

8

Janemba

“Only Majin Buu Has Pushed Me This Far”Janemba at Cell Games arena in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Janemba’s cute but deadly nature pushed Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 form to its absolute limit. This made him one of the strongest enemies ever in the Z arc. Unfortunately, he doesn’t feel as useful in Sparking Zero’s matches.

Despite having some of the unique animations in the entire game, Janemba ended up with a lot of shortcomings. Most of his melee attacks miss the regular-sized characters and his ultimate attack is a close-ranged punch, making him very annoying to get value with. However, the ultimate does lead to a very cool sequence of dimensional punches onto the opponent.

7

Great Ape Vegeta

“Prepare To Be Flattened, Kakarot!”Great Ape Vegeta at Cell Games arena in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

Great Ape Vegeta is perhaps the most iconic Giant character in the entire series. The Saiyan’s transformation almost guarantees him a win in the Z series, until his tail gets cut by Yajirone. While Sparking Zero pays perfect homage to this transformation, it ends up lacking uniqueness.

These character intros show Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s roster at its best.

When it comes to his attacks, Great Ape Vegeta offers useful skills like Explosive Wave and some neat super attacks. However, his Super Galick Gun is easily the best one as it takes out over two bars of health and players can notice the Great Ape’s silhouette in its impact frames.

6

Anilaza

“Unleash Your Wrath”Anilaza performing Destruction Burst in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

Anilaza was a surprisingly strong antagonist in the Universe Survival Arc of the Super series. Sparking Zero took notice of this and made him a decent, effective Giant for online matches.

For starters, Anilaza’s Ultrasonic Sensor allows him to dodge a single instance of any attack. He is also equipped with the Warp Punch, which is a Rush-type Super Attack, very rarely seen in any Giant characters. These moves already make him a very flexible character to play as and can turn the tides of a match, if used properly.

5

Cell Max

“Did They Bring Back Cell?!”Cell Max roaring in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Cell Max was a smashing success in the Super Hero film and made fans want more from the franchise. While this was an exciting event to witness on the big screen, his character in Sparking Zero’s first DLC left a lot to be desired.

When it came to presentation, the developers went all in with Cell Max. Each animation feels unique, elaborate and beautiful to watch but falls short in attacks. His Mighty First is just a short-range punch and Max Canon, an energy beam. The ultimate, Max Bomb, is the only redeeming attack from his kit that truly replicates his terrifying aura from the movie.

4

Orange Piccolo (Giant Form)

Piccolo’s Orange form is another one from the Namekians that can transform into a Giant. While he has achieved this size very early on in the series, Orange’s Giant form is the only version that is available to play in Sparking Zero.

Piccolo’s new Giant form has skills and attacks that are very similar to Cell Max, thus ending up feeling not as reliable. To make things trickier, his Ultimate Attack is another short-range punch which can be very difficult to land. However, the unique feature of this character is how he is the only one that can transform back to his previous regular-sized self, making him feel more versatile than Cell Max.

3

Hirudegarn

“Intense Emotions Drain Its Energy”Hirudegarn at Cell Games arena in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

The appearance of Hirudegarn led to one of the most sincere and emotional films in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. While the character itself was a tough one to face off against in its predecessor, Tenkaichi 3, he ends up feeling underwhelming in Sparking Zero.

Here, Hirudegarn has a decent kit of skills and Super Attacks at his disposal. His most useful skill is easily Dark Eyes, as it allows him to automatically dodge one instance of any attack. However, players can get the most value out of the Ultimate Attack, Gigantic Flame, as it spreads widely and can be difficult to dodge.

2

Dr. Wheelo

“The World’s Strongest Body Will Be Mine”Dr. Wheelo posing at Cell Games arena in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Dr. Wheelo was the meta pick in the early days of Sparking Zero’s online ranked mode. Due to his low DP (Destruction Points) cost of four and the unblockable Rush-type Super Attack, Gigantic Bomber, he became a must pick to guarantee wins.

Unfortunately, ever since the many nerfs to the game’s fundamental mechanics, Dr. Wheelo has become a little difficult to use effectively. The biggest challenge of playing as him is the inability to charge any Ki. This forces him to take a close-combat approach. However, his attacks still feel versatile and can do serious damage to opponents.

1

Great Ape Baby (GT)

“I Will Wipe Out Every Saiyan”Great Ape Baby performing Gigantic Flame in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

After acquiring Vegeta’s body, Baby became one of the most powerful beings in the GT Saga. It took everything from the Z warriors to take him down and even pushed Goku to a whole new transformation.

Great Ape Baby is the only other Saiyan Giant form that is available in Sparking Zero. He is easily the strongest Giant to use in the game, mainly because of the Super Attack, Gigantic Flame. This is similar to Hirudegarn’s Ultimate Attack but is unblockable and takes away almost an entire bar of health.
