Right now, the future of the Persona series is in limbo. Atlus has begun teasing Persona 6 over the past few years, and there’s still no sign of it. That seems to be because the usual Persona developers have split up to work on Persona 3 Reload, as P-Studio, and Metaphor: ReFantazio, as Studio Zero. Metaphor gave fans a similar, yet distinct, take on the series’ usual elements, while Persona 3 Reload helped refine a fan favorite. Persona 5: The Phantom X is also coming to mobile and PC soon in some regions, but that’s all the Persona projects in sight.
Or, it was all the known Persona projects, right up until very recently. A web domain, p4re.jp, was noted by Persona YouTuber @ScrambledFaz to have been registered on March 20, 2025, suggesting that a Persona 4 remake could be in the works. Faz and other Persona fans cited the registration of p3re.jp on March 15, 2023, just three months before Persona 3 Reload was announced, as evidence for this conclusion. P3R launched in February 2024, so even accounting for Atlus refining its development pipeline through the prior project, there’s a good chance that Persona 4 was always meant to follow in Persona 3’s footsteps.

Persona 3 Reload Paved The Way For Persona 4’s Return
Aside from paralleling the timeline leading up to Persona 3 Reload being revealed at the June 2023 Xbox presentation, the vibe of an approaching Persona 4 remake does feel like it’s in the air. Persona 3 and Persona 4 are considered the turning point where the Persona series leapfrogged its Shin Megami Tensei parent to become Atlus’ most popular RPG franchise. Although fans of Persona 1 and 2 would appreciate their games being given equivalent treatment, P3 and P4 are an ideal age for direct remakes on current hardware, so they may as well be updated for modern audiences.
Remastered ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden launched for all platforms in January 2023, although Persona 4 Golden landed on PC first in 2020. The proximity of P3P’s release to P3R’s website registration and announcement made it feel like Persona 3 was getting a year in the spotlight, and it even got an extension on that when The Answer, a bonus story mode from Persona 3 FES, was released as DLC in September 2024. It’s about time for Persona 4 to get similar treatment, even if its additional Golden content can’t as easily be extracted for DLC.
Persona 4’s Remake Could Follow The Same Trail P3R Blazed
If the p4re.jp website is what it looks like, an announcement for a Persona 4 remake, either sharing the Reload moniker or using another “Re-” word, should be coming in June 2025. Late May has become the unofficial start of the summer showcase season, and both Atlus and Sega as a whole have shown a preference for revealing their games at Xbox shows over the past few years. Whether Persona 4 is in need of a remake is another subject entirely, but given how Persona 3 Reload went, it could benefit from one.
What A Persona 4 Remake Can Learn From Persona 3 Reload
The Persona 4 remake could become the definitive version of the game if it receives new features and extra polish like Persona 3 Reload did. P4’s already-strong battle system could get P3R’s Shift mechanic and Theurgy ultimate attacks. New portraits and voice lines in and out of battles would compliment the redone models, and unvoiced scenes from old Persona 4 releases should be changed in the process. If Persona 4’s remake also inherits Persona 3 Reload‘s extra character sidestories and other activities, it could reclaim its status as a must-play RPG for new and old players alike.
