Warning: The following contains spoilers for Re:Zero, Season 3, Episode 15, “A Repulsive Dinner Banquet”, now streaming on Crunchyroll.
Re:Zero season 3 is approaching its epic finale, and there are still three ongoing fights against the Witch’s Cult in the Watergate City of Priestella. There are two battles against the Sin Archbishops of Gluttony and one against the Sin Archbishop of Lust. Unlike the past couple of episodes of Re:Zero, this one isn’t dedicated to just one fight, and the scenes are almost evenly distributed across all three fights.
The pacing in Re:Zero season 3, episode 15, “A Repulsive Dinner Banquet”, is much better than in episode 14, “Theresia van Astrea”. It adapts much less content than the previous episode, which allows the scenes more time to breathe and shine. Considering who the main opponents are, this episode contains enough soul consuming and shapeshifting to make Shang Tsung proud. The scenes are animated pretty well, and the parts meant to make you feel dread did so amazingly.

Otto’s Group Struggles Against Lye Batenkaitos
But at Least They Figure Out How His Authority Works
The first fight, and the one with slightly more screentime than the other two, is between the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, Lye Batenkaitos, and Otto’s group. The last time they were shown, Felt left to get a metia that could supposedly help turn the tides of battle, leaving Otto, Gaston, and the rest of their men to keep Lye occupied. Of course, no one in this group is exceptionally skilled at fighting, so they could barely endure Lye’s brutal attacks.
They noticed that Lye’s skill was far above what could be achieved through natural talent alone. Skill like that can only be gained by years and years of training and experience, which didn’t make sense since Lye looked like he was still pretty young. That’s when it clicked for Otto; Lye’s Authority allows him to copy or gain the skills and memories of those he consumes, and that’s in addition to people not being able to remember his victims. He learned it just in time to be rescued not by Felt, but by Beatrice, who was finally awake. And in typical Re:Zero fashion, to balance out the happiness of seeing Beatrice again, the end of the episode showed Lye starting to mimic someone who knows Beatrice. A certain blue-haired maid lying unconscious in Roswaal’s mansion: Rem.

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is regarded as one of the best isekai anime. While not identical, these shows share similarities with it.
Roy Alphard and His Connection to Julius
Roy Has the Memories of Julius’ Younger Brother
Roy Alphard, the second Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, is locked in combat with Julius and Ricardo. This fight was focused on the least among the three, but it gave viewers some interesting information nonetheless. Despite being good fighters, Julius and Ricardo still struggled against Roy, who seemed extremely skilled at sword fighting, martial arts, and magic.
Roy then started to talk to Julius as if he knew him well. Roy called him brother and spoke about a memory of when they were kids. Little did Julius know, Roy had consumed the name and memories of his younger brother, Joshua. Unlike with Otto though, it’s unclear if Julius or Ricardo has figured out that Roy’s power is to obtain the skills and memories of those he consumes. This Authority is also why Roy is an expert at all forms of combat, so he’ll definitely be a tricky one to face.
Al’s Battle Against Capella May Have Just Ended
A Sin Archbishop Survives
The battle between Al and Capella has been at a stalemate for quite a while now. Capella can’t seem to land a blow at the more skillful Al, but Al himself can’t end the fight because of Capella’s regeneration powers. Al managed to buy some time by dropping the entire building on Capella, but even that wasn’t enough. However, despite showing no signs of weakness, Capella decides to back down, which Anastasia immediately figures out is due to the gospel. To keep them occupied, Capella sends her Demi-beasts after them. Reinhard managed to make it in time to save Al and the others from the Demi-beasts, but it’s implied that Capella had already retreated, making this the first and only encounter in the fight for Priestella so far to end in a tie.
The Mysteries In Al’s Encounter
Al has always been a mysterious figure. No one really knows where he’s from, what his motivations are, or even what he looks like. All everyone knows is that he’s a masked warrior who’s good with a blade and works for Priscilla. Things get even more mysterious in this episode, where it seems to be implied that Al has experienced death in the past, perhaps like Subaru. He kept talking about dying multiple times and saying that dying hurts for the first time. Even though the latter was said in jest, it was still a curious thing to say, and it adds fuel to the theories that Al might have Return By Death or that he might be Subaru from the future.
“True, even if I die a hundred deaths, I’m not sure I could ever kill you.” – Al to Capella
Another mystery arose with Anastasia. Al learned from Felix that Anastasia managed to blow Capella’s head off with magic before Al’s encounter with her. However, Al noted that Anastasia shouldn’t be capable of using a spell like that. Al was about to interrogate Anastasia on the matter, but Felix interrupted him, telling him it wasn’t the time to turn against each other. Felix was right, but there’s also definitely something weird going on with Anastasia that needs to be followed up on in the future. Who knows if these mysteries will get resolved in this season though, because next week’s episode is the season finale of Re:Zero season 3.
Re:Zero Season 3 is now available to stream on Crunchyroll, Muse Asia, MeWatch, and several other streaming services. The release date for Re:Zero season 3, episode 16, is set to be March 26, 2025, at 7:30 AM PT.
