It’s no surprise that Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of incredible lines. It’s a masterpiece on many levels, so strong that you may feel inclined to start a new save before you even finish the game, but its writing is especially striking. From the subtle quirks of your companions to the overarching story that unfolds before you, you’re inclined to listen every time someone speaks.

The types of choices that would even make the Durge give you a weird look.
And some of those lines will rattle around your head for days, whether due to the voice actors’ incredible deliveries, the heartfelt earnestness in their words, or because they made you laugh out loud. Whatever the reason, these quotes from Baldur’s Gate 3 are sure to stick in your mind.
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Updated on February 1, 2025, by Britt Poteet: As Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to remain popular, more people are quoting the game than ever. And with Patch 8 including new subclasses, there’s yet another reason for a second, third, or ninth playthrough. This list has been updated to include a few more memorable quotes, regardless of how many times we’ve played.
20
“Peace. Enjoy It While It Lasts.”
– Kagha
If you’ve sided with the Druids and Tieflings in taking down the Goblin Camp and have successfully rescued Halsin, then you’ll know these to be the final words from Kagha at the Druid Grove. You can try interacting with her multiple times, but she essentially bids you adieu with this message and is not up for any more conversation.
She’s one of the colder Druids at the Grove, their harsh commander. Just look at how she feels about Tieflings taking refuge there. These parting words are very on par with her character, even though she should have given a proper thanks for all the hard work in clearing the Goblin Camp and its leaders. However, she is right. Peace is quite short-lived in Baldur’s Gate 3 and you should “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
19
“Auntie Ethel, Please. One More Bite And This Pie Is Gonna Come Back Up To Say Hello.”
– Mayrina
Mayrina is a missing woman found in Auntie Ethel’s Riverside Teahouse, held hostage by the hag and being overserved with food. It’s clear she’s with child since Ethel only forces her to eat so much because she’s eating for herself and the baby growing inside her, which the hag needs in prime condition in a trade to resurrect Mayrina’s husband.
The way she innocently and tenderly talks back to Auntie Ethel by delivering this line, poor young Rina, makes it all the more memorable. The writer’s choice to convey it as food “coming back up to say hello” is fun and clever, adding to the charm NPCs bring to the game.
18
“Kiss My Arse. I’m The Lord Of Murder – I’ll Show You Why.”
-BOOOAL
The Underdark has lots of bosses for you to fight throughout its locations, though perhaps the most memorable has to do with the Kuo-Toa group in The Festering Cove performing a summoning ritual for the God of Murder, BOOOAL. Depending on your dialogue choices, you’ll face off with the God BOOAL, and he has this snarky comment for you before the battle can begin.

8 Hidden Areas In Baldur’s Gate 3 Everyone Completely Missed
Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot to explore, so you might have missed these hidden areas.
This is one of the best comebacks you could write for such a character responding to a threat, telling you to screw off while also using his status as the “Lord of Murder” to offer a demonstration in combat. Plus, “arse” is always a funny word to hear, and when has a boss ever told you to kiss theirs before initiating a fight? That’s one cocky BOOOAL. And you’ll show him who’s boss rather quickly.
17
“Smashing! Soon, My Friend – Soon We Can Share A Flagon Of Something Liquid And A Tale Of Derring-Do!”
– Volo
Volo is probably one of the best NPCs you can invite into your camp who’s not a party companion, and this quote alone will make you love his scholarly charms and quickfire remarks. It’s also a quote you can totally just picture Jack Sparrow saying in one of the Pirates films.
Volo is a bard who’s usually as eloquently spoken as Shakespeare. Still, he seems to be too excited about his rescue from the Goblin Camp to put together a coherent sentence about what you’ll drink and share back at camp now that you’ve recruited him. “Something liquid” followed by a “tale of derring-do” sounds like it will have to suffice.
16
“Go On. Give The Worgs Some Booze! They’ll Love It.”
– Goblin Warrior At The Goblin Camp
Speaking of the Goblin Camp, there’s this random quote spoken by a goblin NPC in the background, just across from where Volo was caged up and performing. It’s a funny little quip that really tells you all you need to know about goblins and their deadpan personalities.
Apparently, the worgs are so mighty and powerful during combat because they’ve been drinking whatever the booze is that goblins drink. According to this particular goblin, “They’ll love it.” And the words come across as a hilarious way of casually nudging someone to give a creature some alcohol.

“You Could’ve Asked Me To Do The Same – To Throw Myself At Her, What I Wanted Be Damned. But You Didn’t. And I’m Grateful.”
– Astarion
Astarion, your vampiric companion, hides a lot behind an effortless, if not cruel, charm. Despite his status as your rogue, he’s not exactly a subtle person – he can pile on the drama like no one else. His earnest expression of thanks (and perhaps affection, if you’re so inclined) is so shocking.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Builds For Astarion
Astarion is BG3’s most dashing party member – here’s how to level him up and pick the right choices.
It’s shocking to him, too, and he’ll tell you as much. In Act 2, if you choose to infiltrate Moonrise Towers, you can come across a drow who mixes potions out of blood – and she’ll offer you a potion that gives you a permanent strength buff if Astarion bites her, despite his reluctance. If you support him, he’ll thank you at your next long rest. It’s the quietness of this moment that makes it stand out.
14
“Enjoy Myself? There’s A Worm In My Brain, I’m Surrounded By Idiots, And All I’ve Got To Drink Is Wine That Tastes Like Vinegar.”
-Astarion
While that Astarion quote above was more poignant, this one sees that funnier and more arrogant side to him come out, and is probably one of those moments Astarion’s writer Stephen Rooney loves for us to highlight. You can get this bit at camp after your victory over the Goblin Camp that helped the Tieflings with their safe passage.
Astarion’s problem is that he’s having a hard time enjoying himself, and he points out his grievances with the Mindflayer tadpole in his brain, perceiving your companions at camp as idiots, and even fnding the wine to be unpleasant, claiming it “tastes like vinegar.” At least he’s drinking wine and not someone’s blood.
13
“You’re Doing Great. And Everyone Will Be So Proud Of You.”
-Bernard
You may find a strange, abandoned home powered by magic in the Underdark. It’s heavily guarded, but if you manage to slip by its defenses, you can come across an automaton creation called Bernard. If you’ve thoroughly explored, you can keep him from turning hostile by quoting lines from a play.
One such line incites Bernard to learn forward and hug you while telling you how proud everyone is of you. It’s memorable because of the questions it leaves you with – you’ve likely learned of the father and daughter who called this strange place home, but where have they gone? Something about it makes your heart, even if you’re not sure why.
12
“But Loneliness That Deep Gets Into The Marrow. Now That I’m Here – Among Friends – I Can Feel It Burning Out Of Me. Little By Little, Step By Step.”
– Karlach
Karlach rocks – though she’s had a rough go of it. It’s not just that she’s been forced to fight wars in the Hells for the last decade – it’s that her heart has been replaced by an Infernal Engine, making her burn with intense heat. She’s been lonely in every way a person can be, yearning for company and the quiet comfort of a soft touch.

It’s good to hear Karlach express how her loneliness is slowly fading now that she’s surrounded by people she can call friends. The ache in her soul is subsiding. And, well, doesn’t that quote just feel true to life? It’s the slow, excruciating process of being known – yet, it’s always worth it, no matter how long the road is.
11
“For I Am Death. And I Am Not The End – I Am A Beginning.”
-Apostle Of Myrkul
Ketheric Thorm is unlike his cohorts in one crucial way: his motivation wasn’t for power but for love. Losing his daughter broke his spirit, and he turned to the god Myrkul to set it right. He allowed himself to be used as a tool to bring his daughter back from the grave.
But, once you’ve defeated him in battle, he lets himself fall into an abyss that transforms him into an Apostle of Myrkul, a sickening skeletal monster. It sets the tone for what’s to come – an intimidating boast that shows precisely what these Dark Gods are capable of.
10
“Not What Will Happen – What Will You Do. Your Past Is Not Yet Lost. Your Future Is Not Yet Fixed.”
-Nightsong
Shadowheart was once unshakeable in her faith – though meeting the Nightsong has the potential to change that. Beneath the Gauntlet of Shar, the daughter of the moon goddess Selune is eternally sacrificed to create Dark Justicars, a title Shadowheart longs to have.
Until she speaks to the person she’s meant to kill, a being who reminds Shadowheart that she has choices. She can still choose a different path, even after coming so far in Shar’s name. Shadowheart will be plunged into a crisis of faith – and, perhaps with these words ringing in her ears, she may emerge from the dark to chase a new dream.
9
“The Alliance Is Reforged, Mortal. The Planes Thus Quake, And The Gods Shudder.”
-Withers
Withers is an enigmatic presence. A skeletal, spectral being of massive power, he hangs around in your camp, offering to resurrect deceased companions or offering up hirelings to take on your adventure. He speaks cryptically and often refuses to elaborate.
After you discover the truth about the Absolute at the end of Act 2, Withers drops this incredible line. You already know the stakes are high; Mind Flayers are the tip of the iceberg and the gods are involved. But to hear Withers say that the gods are waiting on bated breath? It really hits.
8
“YES! OH GOODNESS YES! I Am A Good Dog… Fantastic Stuff.”
-Biscotti
This one is ridiculous, yet who can deny the joy in it? In Wyrm’s Crossing, when you first enter Baldur’s Gate, you can see a couple with their dog. The wife will berate her husband for doting on the dog far too much, while the husband will defend himself and the dog.

If you have Speak With Animals enabled, you can talk to the dog yourself and discover that it lives for one thing and one thing only: being called a good dog. And it will let you know about it. Try petting any dog from now on without recalling the glee this particular dog expresses.

“Well, Apparently There’s A Limit. Somewhere Between A Nice Summer’s Day And The Full, Concentrated Power Of The Sun.” – Astarion
Astarion fans are well-versed in this quotable moment from the game. After accidentally blowing up your vampire companion and bringing him back to life, he snaps at you with every ounce of sarcasm he has.
Of course, being reprimanded for killing a party member is understandable, but the way he says it is hilarious. While destroying the Githyanki creche by taking the Blood of Lathander is a dangerous decision, it may be worth it just to hear this famous line.
6
“It’s Been Seven Years Since I Left. It’s No Paradise – But It’s Home. And It’s Worth Saving.”
-Wyll
While almost all of your party hail from Baldur’s Gate, Wyll is the only one who feels truly connected to the city, and not just because his father is a duke. He has a pride in his hometown that none of the other characters really share.
His reaction to returning home highlights the often complicated relationship that many of us have with the places we’re from. Wyll carries a strange, melancholic nostalgia for his home – he’s seen much of the world, now, yet his compass still points him home.
5
“I Am So Much More Than What You Made Me.”
-Astarion
Okay, so none of us will probably know what it feels like to be a thrall to a vicious supernatural creature, whether they be Mind Flayer or a vampire. Still, you can probably relate to breaking free from the conditioning that dictates what you were “meant” to be – or from the people who try to reinforce that.
When Cazador tells Astarion that he was made to be consumed in the ritual Cazador orchestrated, Astarion asserts that he’s more than that. More than what he was meant to be. It feels triumphant. There’s a realness to it that’s hard to shake.
4
“I Have Witnessed Far Too Much, And You Have Given Me Too Little. Finally, I Can See.”
-Lae’zel
Lae’zel turning her back on her queen, Vlaakith, is no easy feat. And yet, your githyanki companion does it. While they’d never admit it, Shadowheart and Lae’zel share much in common – devoted to a fault, until the moment comes when their beliefs are shaken.
While Act 2 didn’t give much for Lae’zel to do, Act 3 places greater emphasis on her place within her people. And what, exactly, it means for her to shed her beliefs. Her anger is palpable as she accuses her queen, a person she was willing to sacrifice everything for only days before, of being a traitor to the githyanki.
3
“You Licked A Dead Spider. Dead Spider. You Licked It. That Is Something That Happened.” – Gale
This iconic line from Gale has to be one of the most frequently quoted by players. After you lick a dead spider to see if it has any beneficial properties, Gale is in shock. The deadpan tone of voice as he tries to rationalize your behavior is hysterical.
Following his disbelief, if you continue to lick it, he quickly shouts “STOP LICKING THE DAMN THING!” in another highly quotable moment. While much of the campaign has been bizarre, he seems to hit his limit at this moment.
2
“Hope You’re Keeping Well, Friend.” – Scratch
This list simply wouldn’t be complete without the repeated dialogue from everyone’s furry best friend. If you cast Speak With Animals, when you approach Scratch, he wishes you well and calls you friend, showing how meaningful your relationship is to him.
When you’ve had a long day fighting crazy cultists and shapeshifting murderers, there’s nothing like a kind greeting from such a good boy.
1
“Shouldn’t Have Wished To Live In More Interesting Times”- Tav
While this isn’t the most exciting line, it’s one that is frequently stuck in your head. While Tav may have wanted to shake things up a little in their life, I’m sure they didn’t intend to be infested by a mind flayer tadpole, making deals with devils, and living with a strange group of misfits.
When you play long enough, you’ll hear this line repeated as you switch between party members and Tav. Eventually, you’ll find yourself quoting it in your real life.
