While earning 70 stars in Super Mario 64 blindfolded might seem nearly impossible, one speedrunner called Bubzia took things to a new level. During a livestream on March 19, Bubzia pulled off an incredible feat, breaking the 70-star blindfolded world record. According to the speedrunner, the run was completed in 1:16:41. This impressive time beat the previous world record, which he already held, by over three minutes. Understandably, Bubzia was relieved to have pulled off the incredible achievement, recounting how he felt with his chat after the nerve-racking experience.

Speedrunner Breaks Incredible 70-Star Blindfolded World Record

Bubzia claimed he was “done” with 70-star runs in Super Mario 64. Instead, he said he wanted to set his sights on breaking the daunting 120-star blindfolded record. Like the 70-star record, Bubzia holds the best time for this challenge at 11:22:42. However, there does seem to be room for improvement in the 70-star blindfolded speedrun, as they revealed they lost some time in the Rainbow Ride section of Super Mario 64. With that said, only time will tell if he or someone else can go lower than 1:16:41 in the future.

This blindfolded speedrunning record is impressive when considering that collecting 70 stars in the game in just over an hour can be difficult, even when playing the game normally. Not being able to see what is happening on the screen can be overwhelming and reveals Bubzia’s incredible mastery of Super Mario 64. It is worth pointing out that he has recently broken several other world records for the game, including in the 1-star and 31-star categories while blindfolded.

It will be interesting to see what other speedrunning records players can break in Super Mario 64. As players continue to set new best times, the margin for error continues to shrink, driving these runs seemingly closer to the edge of what is possible.
