A Stardew Valley player has shared their completion of an incredible self-imposed challenge run: unlocking and buying the game’s Gold Clock by doing nothing but creating and selling mayonnaise. The feat has impressed and surprised the community, and is just one more indication that Stardew Valley can be played in numerous ways.
The game’s players have a lot of options at their disposal to make money, and some of the better ways of doing it is by processing and selling the artisan goods in Stardew Valley. One of these is indeed mayonnaise, but most players wouldn’t rely on it alone to earn a fortune. However, that’s just what was done here.

Player MysticMarbles shared their completion of a challenge run to buy Stardew Valley‘s Gold Clock. This is a fairly time-consuming feat on its own, but this player managed to drum up the necessary 10 million gold to do it by doing nothing but selling mayonnaise. MysticMarbles explained that with the exception of six eggs total, the only thing they ever sold for cash was mayonnaise, and those eggs were only sold while they were working on getting the ingredients necessary to create their first 
Mayonnaise Machine
. In all, their incredible effort took three in-game years, with them wrapping it up on Winter 18.
Breaking Down the Stardew Valley Mayo Achievement
There’s no doubt that this wasn’t an easy task. MysticMarbles says that by the end, they had either 12 or 13 coops, and nearly 400 chickens total. In all, they had 450 of Stardew Valley‘s Mayonnaise Machines on their farm. Keeping the chickens fed was extremely time-consuming, too, as MysticMarbles notes that they would spend minutes buying 4000-5000 hay for them to eat every 10 days or so. In all, they think they earned somewhere around 28 million to 32 million gold, but not all of that was profit, as a great deal of money was spent on the supplies for the birds and mayo production.
Games always pose challenges to players in one way or another, but fans often take things way further than what was originally intended by the game. Self-imposed gaming challenges can take on a life of their own and consume tons of time, but in the end, a game’s community is usually awe-struck by committed players’ efforts. MysticMarbles says they’re happy that it’s over, so it seems unlikely that the community will see another unusual Stardew Valley challenge run like this from them, at least anytime soon. However, it’s probably just a matter of time until another player comes along and does something just as impressive.
