As reported by Rockstar INTEL, a mod called “Project New Austin 1907” is available on Nexus Mods and has recently dropped its 2.0 update, bringing a whole host of additions after over three years in development. The mod’s goal is simple: to “bring back those classic RDR1 locations [in New Austin] with added detail to match RDR2’s level of quality, and adds new life to those already in the game.” This also includes “that gritty, spaghetti western New Austin color scheme from the first game,” with iconic Red Dead Redemption locations like Blackwater, MacFarlane’s Ranch, and Armadillo all given a complete overhaul.

Importantly, gamers can now enter the overhauled version of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s New Austin while playing as Arthur Morgan, meaning there are no more annoying invisible snipers to kill players who enter the area before they’re supposed to. Players have been able to technically download “Project New Austin 1907” since late 2021, but its recent upgrade to the 2.0 version earlier this month has been its biggest-ever upgrade, making it one of the definitive must-have Red Dead Redemption 2 mods.
While gamers continue to mod Red Dead Redemption 2 over six years after its release, the wait goes on for any official news about a sequel. The reality right now is that while Rockstar finishes up the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, any news on Red Dead Redemption 3 is very unlikely. GTA 6 is a massive project many years in the making, so resources at the developer are likely focused on getting it over the finish line to a very high standard.
