Now, The Pokemon Company is once again re-visiting a classic in-game mechanic.
The newest set coming to the Pokemon TCG is already seeing one classic element from the card game’s roots coming back. The upcoming Journey Together expansion will introduce “Owner’s Pokemon” to the game for the first time in more than 20 years, including both classic and newer Trainers from the franchise. The Pokemon Company recently revealed more details about the upcoming The Glory of Team Rocket expansion, launching in Japan next month. The set will feature the return of “Rocket’s Pokemon” to the game, showing off new Team Rocket cards for Meowth, Persian, and Mewtwo among others. The expansion will also introduce several new Trainer cards to the game, teasing cards based on Giovanni and Ariana with 98 cards said to be included in the Japanese set. The Japanese Glory of Team Rocket set will debut on April 18, while the global release will be included as part of the Destined Rivals expansion on May 30.

Coinciding with the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, The Pokemon Company has confirmed that Mega Evolutions will be returning to the trading card game later this year. Pokemon will also be making a major change to the TCG’s competitive format next month, with the game’s new Standard format rotation set to remove the final Sword and Shield sets from the game on April 11.
