After leaks indicating that there would be a small set launching after Pokemon Day and a bigger one at the end of April, allegedly on April 30 of 2025, many Pokemon TCG Pocket players were expecting some kind of truce in terms of releases to catch up on past sets. However, the game recently revealed that another set is coming out as early as March 27, Shining Revelry, including new and returning shiny critters, Ex cards, and some other interesting tools. Only a few different cards have been revealed so far, not including alternate treatments, but one of them stands above the rest for its potential impact on the meta.
With Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s meta decks in Triumphant Light, it seems plausible that shining Revelry will shake things up significantly, especially with a new Charizard Ex card that can be set up in three turns for a no-drawback 150 damage attack. Genetic Apex’s Charizard Ex may remain stronger thanks to its jaw-dropping 200 damage, but this shows that Pokemon TCG Pocket is trying to add more unique ways to play popular critters. Despite the fact that multiple Ex cards were shown, the most powerful of the set may very well be a Trainer card – Red.

Why Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Shouldn’t Sleep on Red
Red has a similar effect to Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Giovanni card, in the sense that it boosts the damage the user’s critters deal in a given turn, but with a twist. Giovanni lets all attacks deal 10 more damage to opposing Pokemon, which is quite strong and sometimes can even be game-ending. This has been seen multiple times in tournaments thanks to Arceus Ex having 140 HP and an attack that deals up to 130 damage, making Giovanni a good counter for mirror matches. Red takes this logic to the next level, as it adds 20 damage to all outgoing attacks, but only against Ex cards.
How Red Can Change Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Meta
This is a massive addition to the game because a lot of decks rely on at least one or two Ex cards to win, if not multiple, so having a way to dispose of them quicker will inevitably either change how decks are built or which Ex cards are truly viable. For example, one could argue that Starmie Ex is better than Glaceon Ex in Pokemon TCG Pocket for various reasons, but with Red coming to the game, Starmie may be in a disadvantageous position due to its lower HP, only requiring 110 damage total with Red to be knocked out.
Another plausible consequence of Red’s release is that Giant Cape will become essentially mandatory in two copies in most decks, and it will also likely make healing cards and effects more valuable. Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s new Irida Supporter would be a good way to counteract Red in some way, though the main problem remains a potential one-shot even at full HP with a card that can single-handedly increase the damage dealt by 20. Since it works on any attacking critter, some Ex cards that were previously not as good may now see more play thanks to Red.
On the other hand, Pokemon TCG Pocket decks with Sudowoodo may become even stronger, as it would now be able to deal an eye-watering 130 damage to Arceus Ex with two Lucario on the bench and Red with a single Energy. There will probably be a lot of meta outliers with Red available, and the best decks in the game will need readjusting to deal with this new threat. It remains to be seen what the exact impact will be, but Red seems like the next meta card in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
