One Piece is currently in the Final Saga, and although Oda wanted this part of the story to begin years ago, it’s only just begun, with the ongoing arc, Elbaf, being the second arc. The Final Saga of One Piece was always going to be absolutely massive and there is absolutely no denying that. After all, this is the part of the story where Oda reveals the answers to the biggest of questions, and dives deeper into the mysteries of the world.

In his mind, the final saga would’ve likely begun four years after the serialization began. Oda even spoke of his plans for the Final Saga in 1999, which is staggering, to say the least. Unfortunately for the author, one thing led to another and One Piece became a mammoth of a series that it is today. Regardless, in the end, fans didn’t arrive at the Final Saga after the conclusion of the Wano Country arc and now, the biggest stage of One Piece has been set.

While a lot of the fans believe that Oda wants to make things more serious from here on out, especially given that the story will focus on many deep and dark secrets, Oda has other plans in mind. Here is what Oda had to say about his plans for the Final Saga of One Piece:

I want to joke around more in the final saga. Even if OP becomes a manga that people say, “Your manga is boring,” it can still be an entertainment for me. It’d be interesting even if my audience complains, “One Piece is in big trouble!!” Anyway, I’m gonna enjoy it. — Eiichiro Oda
