Summary
- Luffy’s dream of becoming the Pirate King drives most events in One Piece, tied to finding the One Piece and ultimate freedom.
- A deeper dream may include starting a revolution in One Piece, influenced by Monkey D. Dragon and his Devil Fruit.
- Oars with Luffy’s shadow hinted at Luffy’s subconscious desire for change and revolution in the world, suggesting a more complex dream.
Luffy’s dream in One Piece is one of the most important elements of the series. Acting as the main motivating force for almost everything that has happened so far in the series, Luffy’s dream of becoming the Pirate King has had a massive impact on the world at large. If it wasn’t for Luffy’s dream, the forces of the world, like the Marines and Emperors, would be operating normally in the modern era of One Piece.
However, there may be an even deeper dream that Luffy has in One Piece that he may not even consciously know about. Although it relates to his overall idea of freedom and becoming the Pirate King, Luffy may have picked up some ideas from his father, Monkey D. Dragon. Mainly, Luffy may want to start a revolution in the world of One Piece, simply in order to change the current landscape of their society.

Luffy Dreams Of Becoming The Pirate King In One Piece
This Links Up With A Small Line From Thriller Bark
Throughout One Piece, as Luffy is keen on reminding his allies and enemies alike, the protagonist of the series dreams of becoming the Pirate King. While this may seem fairly straightforward, the goal itself comes with a few other ideas that go alongside it. For example, to become the Pirate King, Luffy needs to find the One Piece, making these two dreams go hand-in-hand. Additionally, Luffy views the Pirate King as the freest person in the world, meaning his goal also involves being as free as possible.
I’ll go to sea and create a revolution in the world! – Zombified Oars with Luffy’s shadow
Although this may not sound like it relates to the idea of Luffy’s dream, all the way back in Thriller Bark, Gecko Moria had stolen Luffy’s shadow, using it to create the zombified version of Oars. Now living, Oars with Luffy’s shadow, who possessed many aspects of Luffy’s personality, was quick to demonstrate Luffy’s lack of an attention span, discussing how he wanted to explore the world. While this is fairly in line with Luffy’s dream in One Piece, interestingly, Oars with Luffy’s shadow also states that he wants to cause a revolution in the world.
Does Luffy Have A Larger Dream In One Piece?
Luffy May Want To Start A Revolution
- Luffy May Want To Start A Revolution
- This Is In Line With His Devil Fruit
Though this could just be a one-off line, this may also be an indicator of a subconscious desire that Luffy holds in One Piece. Mainly, Luffy may dream of more complex things than finding treasure or becoming One Piece’s Pirate King. Luffy, based on this line, may want to try and change the world, leaving an important impact on his adventure. To do this, Luffy may want to cause a revolution, whether directly or indirectly, that’s large enough to change the status quo, ushering in a new age of freedom.

Garp might die in One Piece’s final saga. Oda has already set up his execution.
This goes along with Luffy’s Devil Fruit as well, the Human-Human Fruit Model: Sun God Nika. While the fruit represents the ideas of freedom, eapeciallly when compared to the World Government, the idea of Nika represents change. In many ways, a revolution against the oppressive regime is perfectly in line with what Luffy has represented in the past.
The Zombified Oars May Be Slightly Different From Luffy
Luffy May Still Wish To Make An Impact On The World
At the same time, while Oars does mention a revolution directly, this could be a consequence of fusing Luffy’s shadow in One Piece’s Thriller Bark Arc with the seemingly more violent body of Oars. Due to this, Luffy’s desire for freedom and adventure may have manifested from the zombified Oars as something far more violent, like a revolution. However, at the same time, although he doesn’t state it as directly being a part of his dream, deep down, it seems from this line that, in some ways, Luffy hopes to make an impact on the world.
The one who is the most free is the Pirate King! – Luffy
Based on this simple line that came directly from Luffy’s shadow, it seems the Straw Hat Captain’s goals in One Piece may be a bit more complex than fans initially expected. Through the body of zombified Oars, Luffy may dream of starting a revolution and changing the world. Although the Straw Hat Captain doesn’t know the true extent of his dream in One Piece, subconsciously, this may be his true goal.
