Assassin’s Creed Shadows Review – A Feudal Return To Form

Despite the weight of the world on its shoulders, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a great entry in the series with one of its best worlds to date.

Legendary weapons and gear are precious resources in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, so you’ll want to collect a wide variety of options to add to your arsenal. Shorter areas that contain one or two Samurai Daisho are particularly good to prioritize, and luckily, Tsuruga Castle only has two Samurai to defeat.

Where Is Tsuruga Castle?

Tsuruga Castle is found in the northernmost area of Wakasa, in the Sotomo Gate area.

During the story, while you’re hunting down the Fox member of the Shinbakufu, your first trip here is peaceful. You will not be able to face the Samurai Daisho or do much besides looting a few chests during your initial visit.

The nearest fast travel point is the Tsuruga Kakurega, or the Synchronize Viewpoint in Tsuruga Castle itself, which you may have picked up while visiting during the story.

How To Find & Assassinate The First Samurai Daisho

Naoe spots the Tsuruga Castle First Daisho in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Enter the castle from the northwest side, especially if you can teleport to the fast travel spot from earlier. You’ll find the first Samurai Daisho in the central courtyard of the castle, directly on the icon on the map.

Keep low and dash into the bush, then assassinate the guard next to the building where the Daisho is. With that guard out of the way, sneak inside and dispatch the first Samurai Daisho.

If things get out of hand by alerting a guard, you should be able to contain the situation by defeating them and won’t alert the rest of the castle to your presence.

From here, you can move on to your next target.

How To Find & Assassinate The Second Samurai Daisho

From the central courtyard, look at the southeastern courtyard, where you’ll be able to see the second Samurai Daisho from a distance.

Carefully cross over to the southeastern courtyard by jumping across the small wooden platform and scaling a long building to get a better view via the roof.

Besides the two guards standing at the entrance to this area, the Samurai Daisho is relatively secluded, only flanked by one other enemy nearby.

The best way to approach the situation is by sneaking around the perimeter into the bushes directly next to the Samurai Daisho – assassinate him, and you’ll be done with both Daisho in Tsuruga Castle.

What Rewards Do You Get From Tsuruga Castle?

With the Daisho duo defeated you can claim the rest of the loot available in Tsuruga Castle, including a surprising amount of side loot.

Now is also a great time to grab the viewpoint and fast-travel spot if you haven’t already done so during the main story.

Side Loot

Here’s a list of all the best side rewards that you can earn in Tsuruga Castle.

  • Additional Loot:
    • There is a small chest in the house where you killed the first Daisho, in the south-central area.
    • Directly diagonal from the house where you killed the first Daisho is a red chest guarded by a single enemy.
    • At the top of the guard tower in the southeast corner of the castle, you’ll find a red chest with a valuable book in it and crafting materials.
    • In a small house in the southern section of the courtyards, there’s a lone house with a chest containing a cosmetic item.
    • There’s a chest in the building directly across from the one that houses the Legendary Chest, in the northern courtyard.
    • In the northwestern courtyard, there’s a small house with a red chest inside.

Legendary Chest

Naoe earns Tsuruga Castle Rewards Chest with the Master Archer Outfit for Yasuke.

You’ll find the Legendary chest in the northeast corner of the castle, in a small room guarded by a single stationary enemy. It contains

  • 3,000 exp
  • An Engraving
  • The Master Archer Outfit for Yasuke

There’s one last reward to claim from this small castle.

Synchronization Viewpoint

Naoe hangs from the Tsuruga Castle guard tower in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

In the northwest courtyard of the castle, you’ll find a large guard tower to climb with a synchronization spot at the top.

With this final reward claimed, you’ve completed Tsuruga Castle.
