How Do Specialists Work In Civ 7?

In Civilization 7‘s Age of Exploration, the Enlightenment Legacy Path is one of four Legacy Paths available. Each focuses on a different style of play: Militaristic, Economic, Cultural, and Scientific. Completing Legacy Paths provides you with some fantastic bonuses in the next Age, and also guides you toward improving your civilization in whatever area that path is focused on.

In Civilization 7‘s Age of Exploration, Enlightenment is the Scientific Legacy Path and tasks you with increasing tile yields to a certain total value. Your City Center tiles don’t count for this, so you’ll need to make careful use of Specialists and adjacency bonuses to get the yields necessary.

It’s best to use Urban Districts for this strategy, since they can take advantage of Adjacency Bonuses and Specialists to greatly increase yields. You’ll want to build Districts with an eye for maximizing both building’s adjacency bonuses. For example, Production Buildings and Science Buildings both benefit from adjacency to resources and Wonders, so building them on tiles surrounded by these would get you a huge head start.

You can then further enhance the yield per turn of the tile by assigning specialists to it since multiple specialists can be assigned to keep boosting gains further. You’ll want to boost food output as much as possible to ensure your cities and towns grow quickly and thus generate more specialists.

To complete the Enlightenment Legacy Path, you’ll need to have five tiles with 40+ total yield. This means the combined Science, Culture, Happiness, Food, and Production produced by that tile each turn.

As mentioned earlier, the easiest way to do this is by building two buildings on the tile that share adjacency bonus types, on a tile where they can take advantage of those bonuses, and then stack specialists on that tile to boost the yield up past 40. Once you’ve done this on five separate tiles, you’ll have completed the Enlightenment Legacy Path.
