Set in a wondrous world based upon pre-World War I France, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG that draws inspiration from older Final Fantasy games in its combat, music, and overarching plot. The mission of the titular Expedition 33 sets characters like Gustave and Maelle on a quest to stop the entity known as The Paintress, who wakes up each year and paints a glowing number in the sky. The number corresponds to the age limit of the world’s citizens, as anyone aged past that will fade away while those at that age have just a year to live. As such, Expedition 33‘s mission to stop The Paintress may be its last.
