Bleach Rebirth of Souls Launches To "Mixed" Reviews On Steam

Summary

  • Bleach Rebirth of Souls is finally here, though it looks like the PC release is having quite a bit of issues.
  • Between bugs, crashes, a lack of music and other issues, gamers are having a hard time recommending the title.
  • As it stands, the game has a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with more negative reviews than positive.

If 2024 was considered a banner year for anime video games, what with the likes of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Gundam Breaker 4, Sand Land and DLC for Naruto x Boruto, then 2025 is coming for all the gold.

First up: Bleach Rebirth of Souls. The first Bleach console game in well over a decade is finally out across consoles and PC, helping kickstart what should be a big year for anime fans, as Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact and Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 also set for release later this year.

Three story arcs for $59.99 doesn’t feel right.

However, if you were planning on playing Rebirth of Souls on PC, it seems like you’re better off waiting. That’s because within hours of its global release, the game debuted at “Mixed” status on Steam, with some going as far as to call it “unplayable.”

Things Aren’t Looking Good

As of this writing, of the 1,790 reviews for Rebirth of Souls, only 46% are considered positive, meaning the other 54% are firmly in the negative space. Specifically, players are claiming the PC port is poorly optimized, with swaths of bugs, crashes and other imperfections impacting their playing experience.

“It’s not a good PC port, and pretty much unplayable,” one review read in part. “Avoid it for now. As a long-time Bleach fan, I’m very disappointed.”

Other reviewers are claiming that music is not playing properly and that the tutorial section may be bugged. One reviewer noted that they supported anime games, even knowing that they are sometimes of low quality, but just couldn’t stick with Bleach. “I’ve bought my fair share of anime games and even if they were bad, I refused to refund because I wanted to show support,” they wrote.

That said, it appears that a good game could be tucked away under all the bugs and issues. “The characters have unique gameplay styles and mechanics that I really think sell this game’s individuality,” a user wrote.
