If a recent job listing from PlayStation is to be believed, Santa Monica Studio could be developing a new God of War game. The studio’s last God of War game was the critically acclaimed sequel to 2018’s God of War, God of War Ragnarok, released in 2022. While the franchise did recently celebrate its 20th anniversary, there has yet to be any official confirmation on a new entry, but a recent job listing suggests that could be about to change.
While no new game has been confirmed just yet, Santa Monica Studio surprised fans for the series’ 20th anniversary when it announced that God of War Ragnarok would receive new content inspired by the older games. A new update for the almost three-year-old title was released on March 20, adding a plethora of in-game armor and cosmetic items known as the Dark Odyssey collection, which is a reference to the codename for the very first God of War game from 2005. The update came as a huge surprise to fans and was a great reason to jump back into God of War Ragnarok, but much of the community is still eager for more.

Job Listing Suggests New God of War Game in Development
While there was a noticeable absence of any major God of War announcements during the recent 20th-anniversary celebration, some official news could be on the horizon. In a new job listing reviewed by Game Rant, PlayStation is currently recruiting for a Quest Designer to join “the award-winning team that created God of War,” otherwise known as Santa Monica Studio in California. While this might seem like a normal job listing, one of the requirements for the position states that the ideal candidate must have a “personal understanding of the God of War games,” which suggests the role could be for a new entry in the series. Responsibilities for the role will require the candidate to design and implement quest objectives, narrative moments, and dialog.
While it seems pretty likely that Santa Monica Studio is cooking up something related to God of War, there’s no way to know if this is a completely new game or a potential remaster, which has been rumored for many months. Initially, a leaker claimed that the original God of War trilogy was going to be remastered, with an announcement set for February. When this rumor failed to come to fruition, journalist and insider Jeff Grubb claimed that the original leaker “jumped the gun” and that an announcement would occur around the same time as the 20th-anniversary celebrations in March.
As rumors continued to circulate, Santa Monica Studio let fans down lightly by confirming that there would be no major announcements during the event. While it was bad news for fans eagerly awaiting a remastered God of War collection, the recent job listing suggests the studio is working on something related to the franchise. For now, however, it remains unclear if the open position is related to the rumored remasters, a new game, or something completely different.
