There are many things that one can expect in an RPG, and one of those things is stats. Stats are how you grow in power over the course of the game, and they help determine how much damage you do along with how much damage you take, among other things. Aside from leveling up to unlock new Skills and Arts, one of the best ways to improve in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is to increase your stats. For the most part, it is pretty clear what each stat does in this game. Yet in spite of this, there is one stat that is not so clear in its purpose. At the bottom of the status screen you will see a stat called Potential, and here is what this stat does.

What Does the Potential Stat do in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition?
The Potential stat is important because it has two different effects in battle. The first is that it boosts how much damage your TP Arts do. Rather than using your stats for melee or ranged attack damage, the damage caused byTP Arts is calculated with your Potential stat instead.
Outside of the damage boost to your TP Arts, Potential also increases how much healing a Soul Voice does. So, if you want to boost how much healing you get from a Soul Voice, you will want to make sure your Potential stat is as high as possible.
How to Improve the Potential Stat
There are several ways that you can improve your Potential stat in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Each time you level up, your Potential stat will increase by a small amount. If you really want to increase how much Potential your character has, you will need to equip gear that boosts your Potential.
The Potential you get from gear can be increased even further by equipping Potential Boosts on your armor. There are several different ranks of Potential Boost, and they increase your Potential by the following amount:
- Potential Boost I: 5% boost
- Potential Boost V: 9% boost
- Potential Boost X: 14% boost
- Potential Boost XV: 20% boost
- Potential Boost XX: 25% boost
You can equip several Potential Boosts on your gear, as the effect does stack. In addition to equipment, there is a skill that you can learn that boost your Potential. Enforcers can learn Inner Search which increases your Potential by 12%.
