More than two decades after the first two games in the franchise were launched, Konami breathed a brand-new life into them with Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster, accompanied by plenty of improvements to make the titles more accessible to modern audiences. However, the remastered versions of the games do not deviate too far from what made the titles so memorable in the first place, including the massive roster of characters that you can take along on your journey.

These iconic sayings reflect what Suikoden 1 & 2 are all about.
Considering that there are more than 100 characters in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster, it is important to know which ones are worth recruiting and adding to your party depending on the benefits that they bring to the table.
8
Chaco
Tenkou Star
Chaco may not have the greatest magic offense stats, but he can effectively defend himself against many incoming magical attacks, and although his overall health is pretty low, the rest of his stats try to balance things out. Having a medium-ranged spear in his arsenal is also something that comes in quite handy, considering that he can’t really keep standing in the front row and face enemies head-on, giving him the option of hitting them from a relatively safer zone.
Sticking with Chaco also proves rewarding when he levels up and unlocks all three rune slots, making him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield thanks to the various combinations that you can opt for.
7
Luc
Tenkan Star
If you are looking for a mage who can deal considerable damage to the enemy from a distance, then Luc should most definitely be considered, as he does not even need to be fully leveled up to prove his worth in combat. That not only makes him an effective ally to have early in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster, but he keeps being useful for the rest of the game as well, with his three available runes being the cherry on top.
Of course, Luc also has the Tablet of Stars under his care and protection, which keeps you up to date on just how many Stars of Destiny you have managed to recruit.
6
Flik
Tenan Star
If you have played the first Suikoden game from 1995, you probably remember Flik being one of the standout characters, and thankfully, that has not changed in the remastered version of the sequel either. Flik is not only an amazing ally to have on the offensive front but also provides a great balance on the defensive side of things, making him someone you can count on in numerous situations.

Even harder than Suikoden 1, these bosses may prove to give you a difficult time if you’re not prepared.
From having a shield in hand to protect himself from incoming attacks, even while standing in the face of danger in the first row, to impressive lightning magic usage, Flik has a lot to offer your party in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster.
5
Wakaba
Chiyu Star
Although you might think that a character like Wakaba, who does not really have a weapon on her and only relies on her kicks, would not come through for your party in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster, her utility in combat will prove you wrong. Although there is not much range to her kicks, putting her at the front of the line would ensure that her attacks deal incredibly great damage.
That, combined with splendid stats in areas such as speed and luck, makes Wakaba a highly productive party member in battle, which is made even better thanks to her effective unite attacks.
4
Sid
Chido Star
If you already have Chaco in your Suikoden 2 HD Remaster party, it would make sense for you to put Sid in there as well because of the unite attack that the two of them can muster up together. The only issue is that Sid focuses a little too much on his offensive front, leaving him prone to incoming damage, regardless of whether it is physical or magical.
Fortunately, Sid goes all out when it comes to attacking the enemy, leaving a little window for them to strike back as he uses a spear at multiple ranges and can stay out of trouble when necessary.
3
Long Chan-Chan
Chihi Star
The creator of the Dragon Style Martial Arts, Long Chan-Chan, is the one who taught Wakaba everything she knows about fighting, but unlike his student, the teacher prefers to rely on his fists rather than his legs during combat. With punches that deal tons of damage at short range, Long Chan-Chan’s already impressive abilities on the offensive front can be made even better thanks to runes.

Long Chan-Chan also comes with two distinct unite attacks, one of which he performs with his fellow bald men and the other he unleashes with his student Wakaba, both of which can come in handy in drastic situations.
2
Viktor
Tenko Star
Given his long history with Flik in the Liberation Army, it is not necessarily surprising that Victor has an amazing unite attack with the Tenan Star, dealing a significant amount of damage and also hitting the enemy with the knockdown status. On top of that, Victor also comes with plenty of health to survive in even the toughest scenarios.
Since there are so many characters in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster who serve better at the back, it is nice to have someone like Viktor in your party who can deal with the danger head-on from the front, unleashing his sword on the opponent to give you an advantage in combat.
1
Tir McDohl
Tenkai Star
The first Suikoden game also featured a vibrant cast of characters, so it only made sense for Konami to bring the protagonist, Tir McDohl, back for the sequel, and it turns out that he is easily the best character on its roster. Giving his all in every battle, McDohl not only brings amazing strength to the table but is also accompanied by an equally balanced mage side, making him a highly versatile ally in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster.
In fact, he even outshines the actual protagonist of the sequel, Riou, in many instances, as he gets rid of enemies quite quickly and does extraordinary damage in combat, which is why he deserves a definite spot in your party.
